Saw this gem in a field near my terminal last week. I texted the picture to one of our drivers who worked for CF before they shut down. I said "hey man, I located your old Corn Flakes tractor!" He got a kick out of it and said he actually might have driven it at some point. He talked about how bare bones they were and how much better we have it in Dayton Freight's decked-out tractors.

The old CF drivers I've talked with say the trucks were miserable to drive but when you saw your paycheck, benefits and retirement it made the sacrifice worth it. Adjusted for inflation I doubt there is an LTL company today that pays as well as CF did.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
I'll be back soon off today but work Friday and Saturday (bummer I know.)bzinger, Mike_77, Cardfan89 and 1 other person Thank this. -
The earlier days they had no air conditioning , power steering , heated mirrors or electric right side window or air ride cab and seat. This was all negotiated along with wages and benefits in the National Master Freight Agreement. We also got an extra $1.00 each time we pulled triples.
Pretty much all the LTL truck-lines paid the same rate give or take a few cents.Last edited: Nov 23, 2017

The pie break bulk terminal in Omaha still stands near 72nd and I 80. -
Since Mike2633 is into the early 1990's portion of his book I thought I would post this CF corporate video I found on YouTube which is from the same time frame.
