Merry Christmas to you Mike.

There it is everyone 1983 tractor 414-3001 one of the most famous LTL tractors in American History. This tractor is actually preserved at the Iowa 80 truck museum looks just like it did when it rolled off the assembly line in 1983 at the Ford Louisville Truck Plant in Louisville, Kentucky.
That man in the picture is Gerald Detter the president of Con-Way Central Express from Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Detter opened CCX in 1983 and put together the CCX system in an old farm house in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
CCX came about in 1983 when CF sold Freightliner and had $300,000,000.00 burning a hole in there pocket and they hired a consulting firm who told them the average LTL shipment was 500 miles and that there average CF shipment was 1200 miles, but for some reason CF wasn't set up to handle short hauls so they just went and birthed another company known as Con-Way. You know the Consolidated-Way or Con-Way.4mer trucker, LoneCowboy and bzinger Thank this. -
