Anyone have any news on the new 389s being governed to 75 mph from the factory, some dealers are saying there are not going to be able to change it. What a shame. Was gonna order new one, but having second thoughts, that and the new dash they have.

    Coffey and D.Tibbitt Thank this.

I turned my truck up wide open anticipating this BS. Sometime in February, my Volvo PTT software popped a message saying it needed a major update. I'm thinking that update is to take away the ability to change the road speed. Nah... no thanks. I run out west and if I want to do 80, I'm going 80.

Sounds like all of them, i have the cummins and was gonna get another, the claimed it was for EPA regulation and tires, since there only rated for 70 I believe. Just wanna know if anyone else has heard anything.

I've not seen a tire rated over 75mph on a big truck.

I know on cars, if the car has a rated top speed of say 180mph, the tires are required to be rated for that.

The 389 i purchased 2 years ago came from the factory governed at 75, according to the dealership they all come like that...

Its just a simple plug the computer in to change the parameters, I can't see them having a way to make that max speed "permanent"

No way would I pay $180k for a truck and be maxed out at 75mph.

I've yet to see a road with a speed limit higher than 75. Most places I've been you'd be nuts to want to drive much faster than about 70 anyways lol.

    It's lawyers / lawsuits.

Truck is able to go faster than the safety rating of the tires, tire fails, now it's the manufacturer fault for producing such an unsafe deadly truck.

They come through the factory set at 75 mph which is the tire speed rating.
Rush truck center won’t turn them up either.. “company policy” is what they told me a couple years ago. Last November when I got my 389 I asked again and was told it’s a “New Federal law” they can’t turn up the speed more than the tire rating.

if you’re interested, I can tell you of a Peterbilt dealership that will turn it up for you..

Lastly, the new digital dash..I had an identical 389 (one in my avatar)ordered and was supposed to take delivery mid August. Unfortunately I wasn’t told about the new dash by the dealership, I heard from another 389 owner. After hearing the news from the driver I contacted the salesman and sure enough it’ll have the new dash..as will every new Peterbilt built starting mid July.

Not that they’ll miss my business but…please see image :)
Long story short.. I will never own another Peterbilt.. although it’s still Paccar I’m looking at special ordering a new W-990 to my specs.

At some point I’m going to post a review on my current 389 once I have more time. Basically quality control is nonexistent at Peterbilt.
