So is the consensus that CPAP machines are useless and sleep apnea is overblown as a medical problem?
New bill just passed

Its like the mass shooting issue, lets ban guns for everyone.
So a few people have serious sleep apnea so lets force everyone to undergo $2k out of pocket expenses to prove to the company doctor that your ok to drive, and even then they still don't have to hire you. -
It is a serious concern, but the guidelines are wrong.
The issue is against over-regulating, I think.
Tell me, how many accidents have been attributed directly to sleep apnea?
What percentage?
As opposed to distracted driving (cell phone use, eating while driving, daydreaming...), speeding, tailgating... etc.. -
Read something instead of embarrassing yourself with your ignorance.
Even a gun registry was banned in the proposal!
Unlike the gun registry the NRA has been compiling.

Everyone can agree with keeping guns away from psychos, but what was being proposed WILL eventually lead to the banning and confiscating all guns, even from law abiding citizens. Several examples in history already to prove this.
Most of those mass shootings happened in gun free zones. I'm sure people in those places felt safe, until the day happened.
Cities like Chicago and DC with anti gun laws should be safest cities in America, and its just the opposite.
Too much anti gun hysteria lead by a few people and mainstream media.
If drugs are bad, then lets ban them and then nobody will have drugs. Oh wait, that failed.
Seems that you're the only one that embarrassed yourself there.
Now my previous post was a comparison about the over reaction and hysteria of a few bad apples that have to affect everyone, wasn't meant to debate a whole another topic which derails the current topic. I'm sure you'll get upset and have say a few more things, but safe yourself the embarrassment cause your not the majority on that issue, and its only derailing the topic about forced sleep apnea testing.
Now the part where Obama wants to require the doctors to ask us about guns in the home, sort of does relate to the topic, and goes too far also. -
DOT medical examiners are withholding dot medical cards in spite of the fact that there is no sleep apnea testing requirement, I had a 6 month extension for BP, came back with the BP in order, then I was refused my medical cert unless I went for sleep test. My neck was 18 inches, my head an 8.5 hat size, since I was a junior hs football player, weighing in at 165 lbs. I,m now 275, 5'10.5' tall and have 14# of surgically implanted titanium. The Doc rounds DOWN to 5'10', instead of UP to 5,11", ROUNDS UP to 280#, and there is no "BMI index allowance for titanium, or muscle. My neck is not fat, my gut is. I do not snore, I don't get day time drowsy, I have a life long excellent driving record. We are now forced to take a 30 min DOT nap. And now we are being forced to finance sleep clinics on reduced earnings due to Dr. dictated hoop jumping.. Since anyone can have sleep apnea, everyone should be forced to use apac machines, just in case. Medical services are getting loaded on the backs of drivers... Some of these dot medical offices scam more than a shyster lawyer

Will a student going for company training be told they have to take the sleep test during the physical stage or will it happen after you have signed on the dotted line
and now have some financial responsibility to the company? I would think they would see I am a candidate for the test. I am "BMI obese" and an 18" neck.
Has anyone heard of someone having their Dr./medical facility submitting the student/driver sleep apnea test to the company Doctor instead of using the company testers?
Doesn't make sense that company will take student or drivers doctors signature on a driving release for medications but won't take the sleep apnea data from the same Dr./clinic!! -
Most companies will review your application, work experience, truck school attended, criminal record, and then literally hire anyone. Probably only real requirement is clean driver record (no accidents/tickets).
Its after you show up for the 2-day orientation at a company terminal to fill out all the paperwork and get DOT Physical by a company doctor that you'll find out if your actually hired (at least for being a student, then find out after 6 week training if you'll be hired as a qualified driver to get your own truck).
The company doctor during the 2-day orientation can disqualify you if they wish for any reason set by company policy.
Sure, you can get your DOT Physical done by your own doctor, and have the 2 year physical card, but the companies don't care about that. They want you to get another one done by their company doctor, who may be under additional requirements set by the company to check your neck size, BMI, and BP. And if you are over reasonable BP, 17" neck, and 35 BMI then the company doctor (under orders by the company) can tell you to get a sleep apnea test done before you can be hired. This could cost you $2k out of pocket, and in the end you still might not get hired.
Careful about letting the doctors round numbers on your height and weight. And they love to take your weight with all your clothes and shoes on. They tried to tell me I had 35 BMI based on their own measurements. Then I did some research to find out my actual BMI is around 27.
Sure, the new bill passed might not make it a requirement to get the sleep test by regular DOT doctors, but the company can still make it a policy to have it done.Cali Hawk Thanks this.
