Except you don't KNOW that, you are biased in your opinion that the white knight truck driver did NOTHING wrong, while the evil black night broker screwed everything up and is trying to screw the truck driver. Tell me this, is it possible, that the driver called the broker up and cussed, screamed, and swore at him, and threatened to hold the load hostage before the broker even had a chance to tell him what was going on? Possible?
No. It's not possible. You are always calm because you're hoping to get paid for the screw up. Only reason you get ticked off is when the broker won't give you the money. Anyone who says otherwise doesn't deal with brokers.
Well, as a small carrier we deal with brokers all day long. We are also a brokerage and if it wasnt for needed to be able to cover loads so that we can get better freight for our drivers I would never just do a brokerage. And we have a very large carrier selling for us. For the most part, carriers and drivers are awful. But the plus side is because most have no clue about running a business it has created a great opportunity for our drivers and my company. As a broker, when you find a good carrier and driver you will pay. But this attitude that brokers are making huge margins and do nothing is just ignorant. After all these years you would think I would stop being amazed at how supposed business people could be so clueless about one of the largest segments of their business that can make a big difference in the profitability of their business.
You are kidding, right? I've seen you post, we've talked before, I don't believe you are this ignorant....
Truckers CAN operate without brokers. The freight will get moved. Brokers CANNOT operate without truckers. The freight will not get moved. Brokers are a convenience, and a good one, but not a neccessity.
Thousands of billion dollar mega corporations seem to disagree with you. Almost every major manufacturer and retailer in north America uses brokers. Including those lil bitty mom and pop outfits like Lockheed Martin. DoD, Honda, ford, General motors, Wal-Mart, all those lil guys. They all use brokerage firms. In my book, that qualifies as a need for all intents and purposes.
No way a driver freaks out because he has to stop and pick up bills at a TS. The REAL story (that we are not getting) is it cost him time and fuel. And then he freaked out when he didn't paid. THAT is the real story. And yes I KNOW because that's the way it always goes. Something for nothing. And you're right. I'm not ignorant. I know how it works.
I agree with your thought about brokers being used , there is a need. No arguement there. However, if brokers were outlawed, and the shippers , corporations, etc. HAD to deal with trucking companies directly, it could be done. I am not saying this would be good, just that they COULD continue to move freight. If trucks were outlawed, ( of course that would never happen ) , their freight would not move. They must have truckers.Companies COULD deal directly with shippers, cutting out the middle man.Truckers could survive. Therefore truckers are more important than brokers. You need us more than we need you.
I don't really want to be a broker. They have a worse reputation than we do, and worse than many used car salesmen too. Besides, sales is not my strong suit. However, I could do just as well as these brokers that simply buy the freight from another broker. I'm still curious, how much money can a person take home doing that double brokering gig? I may try it.
