McElroy, spoke to our class today. I have a really good feeling about them. The only thing I am skeptical about, is that they guarantee home every weekend! Not only did the recruiter say it, it was also in writing inside their pamphlet.
That threw up a couple of flags. 1. It isn't true. 2. If it is true, can I expect low miles since all of their loads begin and terminate in the Southeast and McElroy does not run on weekends?
Can anyone on the inside tell me how it really is over there? I see one discrepancy already, the McElroy recruiter told me that their trucks DID have APUs.

Yes, you get home every weekend. You will get home sometime on Friday and you have make your delivery at 7AM Monday. It doesn't matter when you leave as long as you are there on time.
I have averaged 2000/week. Not all loads are southeast. All of my pick-ups have been but I have delivered in NY and MD.
The trucks do not have APU's. They do have auxillary heaters.

Sorry about asking questions you already answered, Blue Knight. Your reply brings me to another one.
If you have to make a drop that's due 7:00 Monday morning, how can you still get your home time considering current hours of operation laws? -
Most Fridays I get home in the afternoon, but sometimes it is after 6PM. If I have a load delivering close by I may not leave out until Monday morning at 5AM. I have had to leave at noon on Sunday once because I had a long way to go so I wanted to be able to stop and sleep before the delivery.

I'm sad to report that Chapter One in my new career has ended and Chapter Two begins. Some personal circumstances have caused my tenure with McElroy Truck Lines to come to an end. They are a good company and I would recommend them to anyone. I have an offer to start with Melton Truck Lines on 07/23 and I may have another offer to consider soon. I will start a new thread when I start my new job and keep everyone informed in hopes that it helps another "newbie" make an informed decision about their career.
