yeah ya gotta do a lot of experimenting.... I've always looked at it that everything matters antenna coax the radio the mount you use. it goes on and on and on. and it usually ends being something totally stupid .that makes you feel like a idiot...

Felt like one yesterday..Been haveing to high of an ohm reading on my mfj 259..Cleaned everything, changed alot but did figure it out...
Discovered a lil water in the top mast of my predator 10k and corrosion in the top bolt that connects the shaft of my ant and mast of ant mount..
Cleaned and co efficient of reflect is atleast 20 db up to 25 db,match is 99% resonance is 3 or under till im up around 27.360 ish and swr is 1.1-1.3..
I know there is more i can get out of it but not sure how to increase range..Thinkin of gettin a short top mast made and ordering a 27" base shaft..

I looked and its as if FL made the gap just for this purpose, no pinch at all. That's not to say I don't have a poorly mfg. truck, and yours is tight near the windshield? The only place I did find was on the right dash to windshield column... I didn't pinch it, but I really should take that plastic off and do it right.

sounds like your on the way to having it totally figured out. the short mast and 27" shaft will put you up over the roofline....then you can talk to the astronauts in space... lol

Well the coil is just a lil over the windshield now so what ill likely end up doing is drilling a col more holes in the mount shaft to drop over all height but keeping it more or less along the lines of a top load..Well thats my theory with some ideas from rabbi..

my biggest problem with this mount is the height. getting the antenna straight up and not clicking bridges with the stinger. but I got it figured out.

yeah rabbi has a lot of good ideas and solutions on many topics.but he no longer replies to my messages to him anymore.maybe it's because I'm a newbie on here. I don't know.I've got plenty of freinds anyways.

Ya know you can lean that mount a lil foward and not hard on the set up at all..Its like 10-15 degrees, remember the longer the shaft the shorter the whip to....If mine was straight up,im sure i would be bustin off a few more static balls..
