    Hi there.

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate this advice, I am going to start my job search soon now. Is there any other advice you have that might help me further?

I don't know if I am in the minority, but I actually am in favor of relaxing the rules to allow 20 year olds to drive interstate.

Household goods movers hire drivers that are under 21 yrs. old.
You may drive intrastate or work as a driver helper or both. If the load crosses the state line, then you must move to the passenger seat. Probably have to help pack out a house then unload or help unload at another house, but it's a start. If I was 20, I'd jump at the chance.
Google : Household goods movers then make personal visits to their warehouse instead of making phone calls.

You're probably in the minority, but I agree with you. "Driving trucks isn't rocket science", as Alfred E. Newman once said.

I am old guard. I got my license when I was 17. I also grew up up in a state where they would let you drive 12 hours, and you still had 300 miles to the state line.

Idaho...my first thought would be Watkins-Shephard....they are a "training company" and they are currently advertising for LTL drivers. Get with them and get started, then when you recuperate from your 21'st b'day...you can go western 11.

Don't let the restrictions get you down I got my cdl at 19 but I went straight into the Army and used them when I got out. I suffered the tactics of OTR companies until I had enough experience to move on to a more worth my while gig

Well your local beer distributors won't care because they don't send any one out of state heck you only drive about 3 city blocks with those guys.

I would look on C-List there's probably a cement truck company, dump truck company, landscape company which would be about the same as a dump truck company that would use, you. The federal law is you can't drive interstate till your 21 that's why there all restricting you, but a local company won't care.

Heck there maybe a yard dog position open at a warehouse where you just move trailers around the yard all day. Your best bet though is do a dock to driver program at like FedEx Freight or one of the LTL companies that offers that.

When I worked at the beer company there was a kid who was a helper who got his CDL and he was under 21 and they had no problem throwing him behind the wheel he was pretty good helper though and real competent, he was a little to immature for me personality wise, but he worked out well there and could do the job better then I could LOL!

Local beer company local landscape company, local city/municipality that's a good one right there, go apply to your local city government you'll learn how to work all kinds of equipment and everything. Stop reading this thread right now and go apply to work at your local city.
