There is a series of ranges (hills & mountains) that run from South Australia, through Victoria and New South Wales and end in Queensland. They are called 'The Great Dividing Range (GDR)', if you live on the sea (ocean) side of the GDR then the weather is more moderate, however if you live in the inside (inland) of the GDR then temperatures can be extreme. I live inland of the GDR in Victoria, we get overnight lows of -4c and daytime summer highs of 44c+

this one shows the GDR better (on the right hand side of Australia)

I was invited to apply with a company from Melbourne.
The company owner has couple trucks in Victoria and couple trucks in Ontario CANADA.
    He loves the most Tasmania.
    He plans to retire there.
    I didn't accept his offer.
I wasn't excited with his DAF cabovers and even less with the perspective of flying such a long flight.
Plus the Victoria government wants all foreigners to be triple vaxed with their approved Poisson.
I'll pass. Thanks, but, no thanks.

    AModelCat Thanks this.

Thank you for the great info provided about Australia.
Is any state government less 'full blown communist' down there?

    AModelCat Thanks this.

I thought this forum was not too political

Just so you understand - the Labor Party is the same as the American Democrats, Liberal Party is the same as the American Republicans

I have listed the States by population size, 1 being the most populated
    • Federal Government is run by the Labor Party now, they only got into power a few months ago. The Liberal Party (in coalition with the National Party) were in power through the whole pandemic
    1. New South Wales is run by the Liberal Party
    2. Victoria is run by the Labor Party
    3. Queensland is run by the Labor Party
    4. South Australia is run by the Labor Party (they only just got in - the Liberal Party was in charge during the whole pandemic)
    5. Western Australia is run by the Labor Party
    6. Tasmania is run by the Liberal Party
    7. Northern Territory is run by the Labor Party
    8. Australia Capital Territory is run by the Labor Party
So we have a mix at State level

You do know that Australia is 6 States and 2 Territories - each State and Territory Government determined their response to the pandemic, the Federal Government couldn't over-ride them

that is an old Federal Government requirement. The Victorian State Government has never and does NOT mandate what the private sector does with vaccination - don't read the bull-#### online, just ask an Aussie for the correct information

It was a Federal Government requirement that people had to be vaxed to get into Australia, that is no longer a requirement - https://www.health.gov.au/health-alerts/covid-19/international-travel

that's interesting, what is the company name?
Tassie is a beautiful place, but bloody cold in winter, not as bad as Canada though
nice place to retire to, a slower there than on the mainland
I can understand all that, DAF's pffft, but aren't they made by the same company that makes Kenworth"
see my response to this rubbish above

    Good info.
    Thank you.
If it's considered political, it can be moved to the Political section.
Yes, asking an Aussie about the reality on the ground is best.
If you can find one on hand.

    Trevor 57 Thanks this.

I let him pitch his offer and I said no on the spot.
I don't remember his company name.
He showed me 8 trucks parked in a yard with his company name on the side.
Paccar MX13 is a good and quiet little engine.
    Not designed to haul heavy.
    I'm a Volvo guy myself.
But Volvo is over-engineering their trucks for no valid reason, lately.
More electronic BS that do nothing but break down.

    Trevor 57 Thanks this.
