LTL will definitely be harder work, but that's why they pay you more. You'll have several stops on your outbound load out of Westampton, but your backhaul will 90 percent of the time one pickup and one drop
-
does truckload go all over the country or just one area such as regional. im guessin' LTL doesnt go that far from NJ?
-
From what I was told Truck Load would be more regional.
I am in PA and was told in Truckload I would mostly only get as far west as Toledo,OH, and as far south as the Carolinas... and of course the North East.
LTL goes wherever the load goes, whether it be Texas, Memphis, the Mid West, and of course the North East.
I talked to an LTL driver at a Pilot in Hagerstown,MD a couple weeks ago that said he just got back from the West Coast... but I think he asked to go west from where he got empty...which I think was around Dallas.
He also said he doesn't go home (by choice), so he knows how to run the system. -
Like NCT PA said, LTL will go all over the country. I talked to one driver who had a load that started unloading in Minneapolis and his final stop was in Edmonton, Alberta. I have been to Miami, Louisiana, a lot of midwest. Of course I live in north central Illinois
-
That is interesting I figured it would be the other way around. I like to run all over the country so I'd definitely go LTL then. Thanks for the info! Sounds like LTL drivers make more money than truckload.

thanks for all help that can be giving

We do but just to let you know, it definitely is hard work. Some days you will be very aggravated, especially fighting traffic in a major metro area to get to your stops. But if down the road you don't like LTL, you should be able to switch to truckload. All they ask is give LTL a shot if that is what you decide to do

well i have been getting a lot of fwd msg's from all of you new guys and have even met a cpl of you. i'm not one to paint a rosy picture of any trucking co but nct is in the class of better than most. i chuckled at the guy the said something about the "philly" attitude in dispatch. he's right, don't let it bug ya; they can't help it and i live in s jersey! when you get to know some of them don't be afraid to toss back just a little to keep them honest. the ltl can be demanding and all i can say is get an early start and work steady thru the day. i don't know about the rumor of getting some of our cuts, back , but i am more interested in seeing some new trucks in the yard. they are testing a few out and i heard one rumor of 200 this year. also i was told by someone in management that new equipent is a priority this yr. to the guy that doesn't want a trasnational cause he is 6'3"; well i am 6'4" and have had a trashnational since it was new and i have plenty of room. don't pick on my farm-all!!! good luck and be safe out there
LooneyTune Thanks this. -
ltl? truck ld? they might say you are hired for one or the other but when you get to the dispatch window its all the same. you will make money either way. for the "home time" question...that can be only negative for nct...not their strongest point.
the work is good and the money is there...
