Freight doesn't always move where/when you want it to. Or at the rate you want/need. Two weeks on, one week off works when you have a customer base, not so well when you don't.
-
No offense but many of us have heard and seen it played out, a new way of doing it and just wanting validation.

It sounds like from what I read in my opinion I would stay far away from companies like landstar or any general freight companies. I would look into companies like fed ex ground where you might have an opportunity to get your own routes that are predictable and steady .would work better for someone wanting to invest in trucks You might have to have 3 or 4 trucks I’m not sure what there requirements are I know it at least was you couldn’t lease one on.

It’s a shame we will never find out what the outcome will be on this. Many many have come on here (Newbies) posting the exact same thing. And after multiple posts……. we never find out if it work out for the OP or not.

I heard through the cosmic my name called ...
So here we go ...
Why?
What do you really think is going to happen?
What do you think your margin is going to be?
I don't think you do know how it works so let's see ...
Have you ever driven a truck?
Have you ever owned a truck?
Have you managed a truck?
The rest is disconnected from reality, dude. When you are leased to a carrier, your truck is theirs, you can't centralize loads for them to control the truck's schedule, too many variables, and what will happen is you will burn your drivers out very fast, which means you won't find good drivers and retain them for long. What many think when they think they can start a fleet, they can just give them more money but it is a stupid idea, a good driver doesn't see dollar signs, they see a lot more than a piss poor owner can not comprehend and this is why these ideas fail.
That said, I won't waste much more time on this one, because it sounds a lot like another one that was posted recently ...
Maximizing Profits: The Role of a Dispatcher in Your Trucking SuccessNYStarcar, Diesel Dave and Peplow Thank this. -
The only person that’s going to be winning in your plan is going to be prime, Landstar, or what other company that is doing the work, and will take the profits. The margins are very thin, as @Ridgeline mentioned. You got cut out as many middlemen as possible. Running a trucking company is not just about management, it’s about sales. Are you a great salesperson? How can you build and keep a customer base that will provide some scraps over for payroll, breakdowns, claims, and everything else that it is going to go wrong. That should be your first plan before you even buy a truck.

Years ago (Prolly 2007) I was talking to Billy Millican, owner of Royal Trucking Co/West Point. I had sold the forklift shop; worked out the 5 yr non compete, and 10 for Casters of Jackson and kidding about having to find a job. In talk, he said come drive for me.
I told him, I'm too old to be driving now. His reply was "My guys over 70 are the only ones I can depend on now.". I thought that strange then, don't now.
