I'm just guessing, maybe the ignition interlock thing they make most people pay to do now. No idea though, mine was over 20 years ago, didn't have to deal with that stuff. Never heard of SAP

SAP = "Substance Abuse Program"
The "logic" in the above....if a carrier is willing to hire someone who can prove they've finished a "SAP" program, then it follows that they might also consider someone with a previous DUI....if it's far enought back in their history.

Never mind, I misread the post.
Sorry.Rideandrepair and Sharkwater513 Thank this. -
You should be fine. Bear in mind, your first year driving wont come close to 23 bucks an hour. NOt sure how your gonna get your license, but might check with your local unemployment office about programs that will pay for your school. Thats how I got my license in texas.
Signed, Dude with 6 criminal convictions. Three of those drug convictions, one of those a felony. Yikes !Lav-25, Rideandrepair and Sharkwater513 Thank this. -

If you’re making $23 an hr and getting some overtime that’s way more than you’ll make starting with a mega after you finish school. I’d stick with what ya have.

Worked with numerous insurance carriers and only one held DUI/DWI against the candidate for ten years.
ALL the rest cut off at 5 years, EXCEPT when both still showed on the MVR; do both of OP's show on the abstract report?
A lot of states only print 5 years or so on the report, may be some print ten, pull your report and look.
NJ does not drop anything off UNTIL you start a new page...Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
I thought the fact of previous DUI may stay on record forever, but Companies can only acess past 7 years of records. I had one, got it reduced to Impared Driving a Misdemeanor. Big difference. Most can be bargained down. Unless you just plead guilty. I ignorantly tried that. Judge refused the plea. Ordered a Court Appointed Attorney be present before hearing my case. I’ve also heard of hiring a Lawyer, petitioning the Court to re open a previous case. Getting the verdict reduced. Enough money spent can make almost anything possible in our Courts.

In trying to decide if its worth getting the CDL? YES! Even if the dui's pose a problem to getting into your ideal companies, don't overlook the local trash hauler outfits. Good money in driving a trash truck.
But, it's anyone's guess how your luck with that history will shake out. Just be upfront about it when dealing with decision makers so you don't waste either of each others' time.wis bang, Sharkwater513, Lav-25 and 1 other person Thank this.
