Don't worry ... it's math, it confuses most people.

According to CRE's website, compensation in Phase 1 is $430 per week, which allows for 59.3 hours at minimum wage. Since trainers make money off every mile driven by a trainee, they have an incentive to maximize the hours/miles driven by the trainee, which could be 66 hours per week( plus non-driving time). Do they have safeguards to prevent violation of the minimum wage law? In Phase 2 training, the CRE website says pay averages between $450 to $600 per week at 12 cents per mile. What is the true average? The average of $450 and $600 is $525, which requires driving 4375 miles at 12 cents per mile, which averages to 729 miles per day for six days, which averages to 10 hours per day at 72.9 MPH, or 11 hours at 66 MPH. I figured only super-long haul drivers could rack up that many hours driving . Anyway, the more realistic 66 hours of driving per week(not counting ANY other time) to make $525 is an average of just $8.75 per hour. Personally, I think anyone with a license to perform the dangerous, stressful job of driving a 70,000+ pound semi, living in it for 3- 4 weeks at a time, ought to make a lot more than minimum wage or $8.75 per hour. The "free school" deal doesn't justify such a low wage; tuition should be deducted at a rate averaged over the six or twelve month period required.

It's $.12 a mile for every mile the truck runs, including the miles driven by the trainer.
