I guess it comes down to personal preference. I always loved the 379 growing up.

    Petes and k
I'm not gonna hate on our post at all. Growing up in the family trucking business it was a trash business with roll offs and transfer trailers, We had all macks and I remember when buying first autocar in 1987. That was a awesome truck. However they don't make them anymore. The western star, Eh, that's I nice truck, drove a 4964 past 2 years before I got my dream truck 379 peterbilt which is in my avatr. The western star has the weirdest cab layout and feel imo.Yeah, ive always loved 359 and 379 petes but honestly, after driving this truck I cant believe how comfortable it is compared to all that other stuff out there. Not only are the looks still classic for many years ago but to me, I could never go back to mack, western star, freight liner, etc. I put Kenworth w900 in same category as peterbilt. All personal preference

There are some hopper outfits that will put a young gun into a large car. I don’t know the name of the company, but they have these long and low stretched out flattop Pete’s, different colors, but the same scheme up in the Twin City area. Straight up large cars. But I don’t know if that was their first ride.

On a Mack transmission, only the knob on the shifter and sticker indicating the pattern. Convert a 13 to an 18 simply by removing a pin locking the high split out of the low range.

    Other transmissions might be different...

@389Trucker, young man wanting to be a truckin fool...

I’m going to do something that I normally don’t do, but this may be up your alley...

Apply at TMC. Nice looking trucks, open deck work. You can start right out the box with pride in that ride. Do that for a year, sink your money into savings and then start looking for your own rig.

I don’t normally recommend drivers go to TMC because they want to be anal about their trucks, YET aren’t going to pay you any more. But they do have nice, clean equipment and they hire rookies. Do your best, run real hard, make money, build a name for yourself learn the biz for bit and then start looking for your own large car.

EDIT: Whatever you do, wherever you go, don’t drink the company KoolAid thinking your company is better than any other or whatnot. And when you get your large car, don’t be an arse. Large cars stand out, so be on your best behavior

    Luck in battle.

Celadon dumped their flatbed division, so doubtful they use13's pulling reefers or vans.
