so my brother just got his cdl . He debating on to purchase a end dump or hopper bottom because he can get work for both . Most companies require 1mill liability 25k cargo ect ect. But I was told that end dump insurance would be higher due to tip overs ect . But I don’t know because I never priced hopper bottom insurance . SO ARE THERE ANY DRIVERS THAT HAVE HAULED BOTH THAT CAN GIVE ME SOME INSIGHT SO I CAN PASS ALONG ? Thanks
They haul all kinds of things in hoppers, too. A local outfit has some center dumps, a few end dumps, and mostly hoppers to.haul.sand to a rail head, they use the hoppers almost exclusively.
Get some quotes, I have no idea what those will show. But you will find there are differences in insurers on this and nearly any other issue. Compare long haul rates to limited area rates, again , differences will show up. Hoppers do run long haul more, from what I've seen. Also harder to wash out.
The insurance company will give you a hard time if you don’t have any end dump experience......... some won’t even take you on without experience.... Hopper would be easier to get insurance with no experience.
My insurance has never even asked that I can remember. All they ask is what I primarily haul, and for some reason want me to list one trailer. I can insure several trucks, but they only need one trailer listed, so I generally just list my log trailer. lol
