Can't blame the bottom feeder, amigo. He was the one that chose the bottom feeder. He was the one that agreed to go in business with the bottom feeder if they would supply the training. They did, according to his own words. After the training, he decides to jump ship, stating reasons about lies and his 2 year old's medical condition. Thing is, the medical condition existed BEFORE he made the agreement.
There were other ways to work things out. Swift flatbed has dedicated local drivers that run between Gafney,SC and High appoint, NC. That's all they do.

theres a big difference between your buddy and OP. 1. Your buddy did his research. 2. Your buddy made a good name for himself as a rookie. The better the company, the more quality drivers they employ. Obviously then, your buddy's character and work ethic, even though he was fresh out the gate, impressed his company.

I really don't see why people are trying to make things sound complicated for the driver, he sign a contract and he couldn't afford to work there he quit its simple, i have done it and i even stay home for a month before i started looking for another company to go with, they won't stop sending you stuff in the mail about payment and they will put it on your credit report and that can't stop from find a new job as long as you have a clean csa scores, clean cdl and everything.

Here's a little research for you:

Let's call a bottom feeder with options...like Prime or Schneider. As them what their average company driver makes. Then ask what th top company driver makes. Ask what the average lease operator/owner OP makes. Then ask what the top person makes. You will see the drivers on the top will make 1.5-1.1.75x average. If applying yourself to your trade can net you 1.5 over average, running the exact same equipment, elogs and all the rest of the retardation devices they put in the truck to even the playing field out, why not do it? If you're going to play football, do you want to be first string or 3rd?

Another thing you can try...go to the owner ops section(this will be where the small fleet owners congregate), conduct a survey among them, post a link to this thread, and ask the small fleet owners if what this guy did to Swift would hurt his chances of being employed by them.

The goal isn't just to get a job, but to get a good job.

I appreciate the info yessir. There was never a contract btw. During Swift orientation, the orientation leader stated we were NOT obligated to stay at Swift, only to pay the money back for training, which I intend to do. I was told I would have a dedicated route upon completion with with my mentor because they had openings. I called and emailed my orientation leader as I was told to do within a week of being done with my training. Through many calls and emails, I finally received a response. The response was "when will you be finished?" I answered, and never heard back. With there being no contract and their personnel acting as if I didn't exist, I feel that all I owe them is for training. I let them know before going out with a mentor that I could not make it on $.25 a mile. "No problem" they said. I think TripleSix is just looking for someone to bang on. No worries on this end though. Thanks to everyone else for your input.

Sometimes when you have limited experience you can look for a job in which you have to do things that average truckers dont want to do.....Iam referring to driving for a food service comp that delivers food to restaurants. You will work your butt off, but, most of the time you can be home daily.and make good money..companies like..SYSCO.SYGMA.PFG,MBM..to name a few..hope that helps.
