Oh now. SN's that's different. Hm.

Well, that pretty much limits your type of trucking. Now. there is nothing wrong with local or regional being home much more often. You did not indicate where you live so... the geography of the USA will decide how well you do.

Im a deaf myself but managed to escape it's insitutional teachings as it were. Not really supposed to have been able to do the things Ive done in life, but that was partly due to too many people telling me I cannot. Ergo, trucking. Boy did they yell. Anyway, that's me.

DOT Foods... not a bad employer. You will get in the groove soon enough with home time. Just look them over very carefully.

See if Averitt has anything local. I see their ads for local gigs from time to time in various locations. Since you live relatively close to the HQ maybe you can get a position in a day cab and home every night (after training, of course).

TO the OP ignore X1 The reality is it is not unheard of to get a local job. However the school you are attending will not prepare you enough to be ready to drive in the everyday traffic of a local job. You need at least 6 months of driving skills with multiple backing situations. Lots of practice is needed. Local jobs mean tighter spaces and more traffic. So they prefer someone with experience. I hope you understand that. OTR is probably the best route to take. I sure hope you thought if that and have ample back up for your special needs child. This should of been part of your research before starting this venture. I wish you good luck .

X I live in west Tennessee, 30 minutes from Jackson, 60 miles north of Memphis. Don't mind driving to work in those areas if I t demands it. My hometown is dyersburg.

I have a few things in my favor (not bragging at all just explaining the situation.) I've been with the same woman for 12 years. I have a nice house that I have paid off. Good credit, no debts (worked to pay my education). Truck driving is something I want to do. It's not about money or anything else.

I'm hoping even without experience I have some worth to offer the industry and even though I will finish my bachelors eventually, it's in sociology. So I'd probably stick with diving and maybe buy some of my own rigs etc. I am aggressive by nature, a gift and a curse.

But that's some more background. I know my associates degrees are worth toilet paper to these companies, and my lack of experience is a big red flag. I'm just hoping for a silver lining somewhere.

Caring for a SN child requires health aides that cost around 16 dollars an hour plus medical supplies if any. I would not be so hasty to be ignored Mr TruckDrivingtn with respect Sir. At the moment I live in a building filled with people who are fighting for quality of life trying to be independant away from the horrendous expense and burden of special needs. Im independant. Thankgod. For about maybe 10 years. If Im lucky.

You cannot go OTR with SN children or people at home. You have to be home regularly to care for them. Yes there is local work and so on.

I can elaborate further. But think Ive said enough for this post.

Well then you are familiar with Memphis Neighbor. There is nothing I can tell you about the place then. I can offer you a chance to look at McKesson. You will load hook a trailer go to chicago, or detroit from memphis overnight, deliver (Without touching) or leaving your cab... be reloaded with waste product and back to memphis next day. Repeat. This is high dollar medicine loads in the excess of one million in value with like 5000 bosses watching your every move.

This is the best I have to offer you for Memphis, as bad as it is to me. So, good luck!

I understand X. Read my above post for further explanation. I have a wonderful wife of 12 years and she cares for him in a fascinating way. If I need to do Otr it would for experience. Eventually I would just like to be with him more. That's all.

Thanks a lot X. Are you from Memphis yourself?

And how many days out in a row is that? I'm still learning truck terminology. Forgive my ignorance.
