Personally I think the roughest part is going to be when you go to take your CDL test. Only because that's when people stress the most. Otherwise man you really have nothing to worry about. The only other thing I can think of is the first day you are on your own and were just issued your truck. This will probably be a little overwhelming and will probably take sometime to get used to.

Overall man, it isn't rocket science and there's nothing really that hard about it. Just going to take practice. Your biggest hurdle is going to be the lifestyle itself and getting used to being out there. Can't speak for every driver but personally this is how I felt.

With that being said, I also have to tell you that it is an absolute blast going through school then orientation and then on to training. I kind of felt like the party was over once I got my truck and was on my own. Course that's when the real adventure begins. Have fun out there man it really is an opportunity of a lifetime and your life will be filled with stories and adventures to tell everyone who will listen to you! Course you could be like me and talk to much and now this is my only outlet!:biggrin_25521:

Wiley Sanders is in your area. You would have to go to a cdl school first but once you graduate with a cdl they will train you. He hauls alot of his own stuff along with contracts from the local paper mills.

@ Chompi, Id agree that the actual testing sounds the worst to me. Could certainly use the backing experience but other than that Im fairly confident in my skills so as long as I can keep the nerves in control I should be fine. The lifestyle actually appeals to me other than the showering aspect - I like to have a shower everyday regardless of if Im dirty or sweaty.

@shent60, I edited my last post but my biggest concern with Bainbridge is the actual skills test, somthing Ill have to call them about. My concern is that living in Fl I dont think I could get a Ga CDL and I dont think they would be willing to take the truck and trailer to Marianna just for me. So once again Im stuck without a way to test. Going to call tomorrow and see what they say though as they are also on Schnieders approved school list. Mind saying where the job offers were from for a bit a research?

@Redtires19, Wiley Sander was also on the list of potentials. As chompi said Ill probably need to call and make sure SchoolX is acceptable.

The roughest part is simply adapting to the lifestyle at the same time you're adapting to how your company operates. Looking back on my training, I can say the best thing my trainer ever did for me was really teach me how to live on the road, not just the basic skills like backing and turns and working with customers. Starting in trucking, regardless of the company you sign on with, is like drinking from a fire hose for your first twelve months. Right there around your one year anniversary, you'll wake up one day and realize things have just clicked and gelled in your mind. Until that day, it's overwhelming a lot of the time.
