Pool trailers. Shipper needed a trailer and there was an empty in the yard. Happens all the time. Nothing to do with the driver at all.

The trailer was attached to a truck that went in for a live load.
It wasn't in 'the pool'. It wasn't an empty in the yard.
And you are not the person I asked the question of. I asked the one it happened to. -
This particular company has you back to the dock, chock and then go park in Employee parking. They then send hostler to get you when it is loaded.
See?
I have taken to telling them AT the gate that I am there for MY load, if they are short trailers they need to call CSR and leave ME the Hell out of it.Moosetek13 Thanks this. -
Having a Son in the fuel biz helps too.
They want me YESTERDAY, hourly and home weekends. I'm doing my year here at least, I owe them that for jumping me up the food chain so fast, plus I LIKE the people I work with, and I always like to think I can come back.REO6205 Thanks this. -

Thank you for your well-thought and useful reply.
My Son is a terminal manager dealing with mostly rail cars and some trucks, and the manager for one of the fleets going there wants me to apply like YESTERDAY.
(Decent) Hourly pay, weekends off and OT sure make it sound interesting, and it might fit my intermediate term goals nicely.
Me, respecting that the place I work for treats me decent, won't just bail on them like that and I will finish up a year before I even think about jumping.
But it sure don't hurt to talk, and the tanker outfit has slots open in the city my Fiancee lives in so it might be a good fit for down the road here in a couple months, when we are thinking of getting married, although my heart will always be with OTR, something she is well aware of. -
I’ve been in trucking 15 years and have literally done every job that requires a CDL. I don’t view it as what’s next or progression. I just learned as much as I could in the beginning and then just did what fits my life and makes me happy. However now that I’m out here on my own I highly recommend it once you are ready. There really is nothing better I can’t imagine being an employee again. I took 12 vacations last year. Company won’t let you do that.
That said, two of my favorite jobs were yard spotter and route delivery driver for car quest. Had to do 13 stops overnight and was paid salary so loved the hustle. Spotter was fun too because of set schedule and it was in a regular daycab and you wouldn’t believe the actual physical labor. I lost weight and it was impossible to gain any. I’m one of those people that doesn’t do well with idle time.TigardTrash Thanks this.
