I drove for a percentage company and I liked it better than mileage pay. When I was assigned a load the pay was listed on my assignment. The only thing I didn’t like was deadhead wasn’t paid for under 100 miles.

I started doing percentage pay in '15 running flatbed for the oil industry. The rates were high (not so much right now) and I really liked it. With hazmat and tanker endorsements I scored a lot of high dollar days.
Now I am a company driver, mostly pulling open deck and primarily hauling military loads. The rates are high. I like it.
If you decide to go with a percentage deal, make sure the company is hauling high tariff freight. If they are hauling "sticks, bricks, or dog food" the rates are low. Don't do that deal.Peterbilts and Vic Firth Thank this. -
I had to fill out trip leases after the fact and had to include 7 days of logs, got so good at making of duty logs that I could have signed and cashed their paychecks...
Then I moved on to a nationwide carrier and learned how to do things right...
BTW that owner ended up in jail....DOT couldn't figure out how he was having so many leaks if he was following the tank testing procedures. During the audit the found that a #2 pencil did most of the testing and they discovered the clandestine waste water piping that allowed the waste water to drain into the city sewers...All of a sudden the place was closed and nobody knew why until it came up in Federal Court.....Last edited: Aug 27, 2019
Lepton1 Thanks this. -
There are crooks in all aspects of life, I was in a deal a few years ago, a very lucrative deal that paid north of 5 bucks, for all miles, half empty. I wound up quitting, there was a couple of other issues, but that is the biggest one.
