For the record, the freedom to not wear a seat belt is one that I give up (not lightly), to fly as low under the radar as I can. This hopefully helps to make my life easier. Becuase it has gotten to this point, it is much easier to put it on and leave it on until your master commands you to do something else with it. This is a hard pill to swallow along with helmet laws. We will never be free. Choose YOUR battles, to achieve YOUR goals.

I've thought about doin this t shirt /stripe deal. Some in black others in Orange. Somebody will be selling them on eBay soon I bet.
Ahh no worries, soon the truck won't start till it's clicked. And the drivers hands are at 10 n 2.
With all this new stuff they keep putting on trucks to control new drivers it won't really matter. -
The best advice is wear the belt.
You guys and your t shirts and your flipping on and off give really bad advice. Just wear it.
As for the ticket, it will show up on your record no matter what. If not in the mvr, then a background check.Lepton1 Thanks this. -
I'll never wear one but that's me. been doin this a long time.since 76.
But times are a changing. Big brother watches everything and the co's like to drive the truck from the desk. Ca.eras t.v. hat look to the front and inside the cab will be the new norm soon.
I have to admit though being old school. I sure came to like the ELD system. Takes all the work out keeping track and luring when needed and you can't run hard anymore. No more pulling over to square the log book up. It's not trucking anymore, now it's camping.
I figure 2 more years at most for me. -
Here's an example of a school bus driver that hit a bump and lost control. He wasn't wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the seat. Any parents here want their school bus driver not wearing a seat belt because they want to "exercise their freedom"?
By the way, you can't exercise freedom from the laws of physics.

Honestly I didn't write a lot of seatbelt tickets. I think it should be a choice. Seatbelts don't save lives. A seatbelt along with driving habits and conditions do.
What if your neighborhood has a lot of break ins and they passed a law requiring you to get a alarm how would that go over.
Also here once you are 21 a helmet for a motorcycle is optional. I'm fine with that.fargonaz, rearview, RedRover and 1 other person Thank this. -
If you are dumb enough not to wear a seatbelt while driving, you are dumb enough that I wouldn't want you working for me.Bean Jr., Pumpkin Oval Head, TROOPER to TRUCKER and 1 other person Thank this.

The reasoning behind belts is years of research data about the cause of deaths and maiming being because of people thrown out of their vehicle in a crash. Your safer on average being kept inside the vehicle. I have seen many times just how deadly it can be if you get thrown out of your vehicle. You can argue about this all you desire but the research data is out there and it SUPPORTS seat belt laws. I know of several truck drivers that were killed because of this. In my life I have received two seat belt tickets one deserved and another in a circumstance very similar to the OPs reported one. I was asked to come by and speak to my company VP of safety after that first one back in the late 80s. He took the time to show me the research. I have always buckled up since then. I have little patience for drivers that don't comply with these common sense laws.
Pumpkin Oval Head and Lepton1 Thank this. -
I had a seat shock break while driving one of those wonderfully smooth union built roads in Michigan about 10 years ago. Only moving about 25 mph but in heavy afternoon traffic Only thing that kept me off the roof of that old IH was the seatbelt. Without that belt I'm certain I'd have wiped out a car or two in front of me and possibly a couple in the oncoming lane. Just wear the belt.
Lepton1 Thanks this.
