Hey buddy, I see ya live in Vegas, probably very high taxes, but A guy I work with, his house in nothing to look at but He added, and added additions on to his house, a total of 5000 sq ft. He is paying $10,500 per year on Taxes. If your paying more than that, Holy cow. I tell this guy all the time, Why the heck are you putting up with that, fight it.LOL

BULL!!!!. She might be telling you that and she might even believe it herself. But she's dead wrong.

My wife has 20 years in the field. And according to her, if you've got a degree in biology and transcripts that show you to be something other than a complete idiot, you can most certainly get a job in the private sector in biological research. The starting pay won't be much more than most truckers make at their first job. But unlike trucking, most large pharma companies will pay 80-100% of the cost for a degreed biologist to continue his or her education to a graduate level degree. And once you're a biologist with a graduate level degree and a few years of private sector experience, a healthy six figure income is pretty much a given. How many can do that in trucking?

jgremlin: no bull here. Jobs are very very difficult to come by here in the NE. The young people are getting quite discouraged. They would gladly take anything remotely close to a decent salary. Farms have always been able to gauge the economy by how many people come by looking for work. The last few years there has been an unprecedented stream. Too too many college grads around here; not enough jobs.

I'm just making the point that with a CDL that cost even 5k ,as discussed above in this thread, you can get a job. You can also go over to the thread wargames started and read how drivers can achieve 6 figure incomes. A college degree costs big bucks, and graduates are finding it very hard to get started in life. Comparably, a CDL gets you into an industry with current worker demand.
