Well, I guess since 2 truckers aren't allowed to have the same opinion, I have to disagree with all of you on general principals.....:biggrin_255:

    Was my sarcasm obvisious enough?

    Good subject Buckeye!

I have read all the post here, and I know Rerun8963, as a personal good friend, he has the knowledge to help the newbie drivers, and you guys degrade him, cut him down, and so on, If I were a new driver, he would be a friend I would want to have. I have tried to talk to a lot of new drivers on this forum, but I give up, you all already know it all.

To all the Driver Trainers on this forum, I thank you for all your input. I still listen. Thanks.

To all the Driver Mechanics on this forum, I thank you.

Driver Trainers, Driver Mechanics, are a major part of our daily trucking. You guys are very much needed and Appreciated. Thank You.

First off, steady there Big Fella... easy, Turbo, or however you want to think of it. Please allow me to quote directly from the California Commercial Driver Handbook:

    "IN-CAB AIR BRAKE CHECK
Note: All the Air Brakes system tests in this section are considered important and each can be considered critical parts of the in-cab air brakes tests. The items marked with an asterisk (*) in this section are required for testing purposes during the pre-trip portion of the CDL driving test." (Here's where it gets interesting...) "They may be performed in any order as long as they are performed correctly and effectively. If these items are not demonstrated and the parameters for each test are not verbalized correctly, it is considered an automatic failure of the pre-trip portion of the test."

Given the defensive nature of your reply to the poster who questioned your Supreme Knowledge, I imagine you'll now say something about California, fruits and nuts, flakes, or some such.

I'm such a newbie that I can't even be considered a newbie yet, so I surely don't profess to know anything other than what's stated in the Commercial Driver's Handbook for the State of California. I can tell you this though, I was an Adult Educator for ten years in this state, and I'd NEVER treat a student the way you bragged about treating yours. There's an old quote to whom I am not able to attribute that says something like this, and I paraphrase: "People might not remember what you said or did, but they will always remember how you made them feel".

Here's your opportunity to put this newbie in his place by telling him EXACTLY why they MUST be performed in a certain order...

    This is RERUNS sig line...

"If I got my blinker's on, I ain't asking for permission...!!!"

That line and the attitude that it conveys is one of the MANY reasons that I have no respect for the man!

I wouldn't let him train a dog after some of the PURE BS that I've read from him!

This is true, for CA. I did not do them in the correct order. I studied them the right way, and knew how to flow from one test to the other, but I started off wrong....when I finished the first part, and realized i was not setup to start my next part of the test, I admitted my mistake and the instructor simply said to move on.

and you WOULD LEAN if YOU READ the book and do it properly after I SHOW you how its done PROPERLY as per the states I DEAL WITH procedures....again, you CANNOT compare one state from another, you MUST deal with the state you are in....why can you not understand this...??

it was said in sarcasizm to the poster......i have an idea of what i am teaching and how it needs to be done...do you....????

as i said, EACH state is DIFFERENT in their testing procedures.....the states I DEAL WITH want it done their way, and the student MUST LEARN IT that way..

not fragile, just to the point.

    *************************************************

thanks wargames, but there will always be those that think they know better in how to teach, yet they haven't the fortitude to do the job, and they show thier ignorance when they post.

    ******************************************************

well california is the land of fruits and nuts, but i accept all people the way they are.....

i reiterate, the states I DEAL WITH, want the brake testing done THEIR WAY.....they hold the cards, you play their way or go home....it's just that simple......

    ***************************************************************

i am glad you do not like my "signature line"...i got that from someone else and i liked it......

you are grasping at straws now, and you know it, you got nothing better to do, and you are bored, there is no basis to your posting, it's useless dribble....to pick on a person's signature...how do you feel knowing you could not come up with anything better....???? i am LAUGHING at you for picking on my signature, and i am sure others are as well.....how do you REALLY feel now...???

i have even less respect for you as you seem to do nothing but find fault with anything said as you are so "super (or is it 'uber') trucker"......this is why people like you cannot do anything but drive, always opinionated but not as smart as you think you are..probably one of those CB Rambos'......too....huh....??

    *************************************************

that person can try, but will be shot down ASAP, as just another troll would be.

Too bad all cdl rules aren't the same.

So if you pass the tests in one state, you may fail them in another state ??

I thought this was 1 of the problems that the cdl was going to do away with.

The cdl program started in @1992 ??

And folks are worried about CSA 2011,

yeah in 10-20 years or so !!!!

    Hmmmm indeed.

I wish I could say this sort of thing is atypical in the driver training industry. But what I've read of rerun on this forum makes him seem to me as though he's an example of the type of instructor you find all too often in this industry.

Which is to say he comes across here like a guy who knows an incredibly vast amount about trucking and driving trucks. And he most definitely comes across here as a guy who enjoys teaching quite a bit. However, he also comes across here as a guy who has had almost no education in the principals of teaching. I have no doubt that rerun holds certifications which claim to qualify him to be a driving instructor in some form or another. But I also have no doubt that obtaining those certifications required less than 50 hours of instruction on the principals of teaching if any at all.

Knowing how to teach seems to be an afterthought in the driver instruction industry. There a places where no instructor certification is required at all. And in places where instructors do need to be certified in some way, more often than not, 99.9% of that certification involves knowing how to drive and knowing the CDL manual. And .1% of that certification involves knowing how to teach the material effectively. If instructor certifications were required in every state, and if becoming certified required 66% knowledge of driving and 33% knowledge of teaching or 75%/25% or even 80%/20%, the entire trucking industry would change for the better.
