Now that the cold weather is here. Make sure you drain your air tanks daily. Want to make sure you NEVER have frozen Trailer Brakes??? Carry a bottle or 2 of air line de-icer. Any TruckStop or Truck Parts will have it. At the end of every day, remove your trailer service brake line and pour in some de-icer. Slowly so you do not spill it all over. Raise the air hose so it circulates down. Reconnect the gladhand and the apply your brakes a few times. You should be able to smell the methanol if you go to the back of your trailer. Yes you should smell it. Did you know that the air in the service line is expelled when you take your foot off the brake and they release? DO NOT USE RUBBING ALCOHOL, there is water in it.

I rarely add deicer to airlines and have never had a tractor induced problem. We are mainly drop and hook, so i come across frozen trailers all the time. even if i put deicer in the trailer...all the other guys dont. Best thing to do is drain air tanks on truck AND TRAILER daily. Unless ofcorse the company trailers are such junk that the drain valves are rusted shut.

Do any of you fellow "older drivers" remember the alcohol systems in the white road boss and a lot of other tractors? Never had a ice problem ever in the brakes, tractor or trailer. Again I say "what ever happened to yesterday?" Mike
