Hello everyone,
My name is Samantha and beside me is my fiancé Terry. We just started trucking school only a few weeks ago and will be graduating soon. So far it has been both fun and challenging. Currently we live in Grand Prairie, Texas (right by Dallas/Fort Worth). He is 22 and I am 23. We decided to give OTR truck driving a try. We are both young with no children and thought this would be a great opportunity to try out. We have been looking into several companies to work for and have not made a decision yet. So far we have been thinking Us Xpress, Covenant, or Schneider. We also thought maybe an oilfield company may be a good way to make money, but have not dug deep into that yet. Someone told us truckers over seas make good money, but I have seen nothing on that. Still researching our options.
We hope to make friends with some other couples and team drivers out there, also those living in Texas.
We have been doing our research a bit. We know we want to be company drivers- not lease. We are fine with doing OTR with little home time- if that is what pays more. We are looking into companies that are team friendly and little-no touch freight.
If anyone has any advice out there that would be great. Any recommended companies? What trucking is like for couples?

Thats cool a young couple doing this. I think USX has the best pay for teams with no experience. Once you guys get a year under your belt options for teams open up hugely. There is a lot of money in that.
zackery2011 Thanks this. -
Thank you, that is what we are hoping for. We were told by our teacher that after a year a driving we should save up as much money as we can for a truck to be o/o and call companies for our own loads. We put in apps with USX (so far our #1 choice) but it seems so hard to get ahold of the recruiter we were assigned to. I've called her 3 times over the last 2 weeks and left messages. She still has not called back. hmm. Are there many young people in trucking? Seems like most are older, and not many women either.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
Don't wait for her to call you back, just call in again, and ask for recruiting - as if you've never called before.
You're valuable - don't ever forget it!
Good luck!zackery2011 Thanks this. -
Lots of young people and and a good number of women, there's quite a few even on this site.thecleaninglady and Truckergirl0720 Thank this.

Don't know if they run teams, but Ozark Motor Lines is 100% no-touch freight and hires new CDL graduates.
USX and Watkins & Shepard both good husband/wife team companies. -
The problem with Watkins and Shepard for you guys, is that they do not have a terminal in Texas. Watkins and Shepard drivers must live fairly close to a terminal.

Welcome aboard, We are from Dallas.
I don't drive, hubby does, but I posted recently about what's is like to take your wife along.
Couldn't figure out how to insert a link, so if you click on my name and go to my profile, look for my post Anyone OTR that takes wife along all the time.
It's kinda long, but people seemed to like it.
I think you yourselves have to post 50 times on here before you can private message another member, but I can PM you if you have a question you think might be too personal for the forum.
Good luck to you both, and listen to the advice you get. There are a lot of good people here with way more experience than us.zackery2011 Thanks this. -
It takes 7 posts to private message.
