A little addition: don't be in a hurry to get away from your mentor. You need to learn, no matter how much you think you already know. That time is valuable, don't wish it away. I can tell you, your first week solo, you will realize real quick just how much you don't know. You can have the best mentor, the best training period ever, there will still be questions that pop up after the official training is done.

I hear students talk about how they can't wait to get their own truck. It's silly. You are being trained for a reason- it's because you need to be! If 2 week training sessions were successful, that would be the policy.

As Injun said, reasonable complaints need to be addressed. I'm not denying that. But don't waste your training period wishing it were over. It'll be over soon enough. And then you can continue your learning with the trial and error method instead of having a teacher guiding you.

True 1nonly I had 3 people helping me after I went solo. A frien who has been OTR since I got him his first tractor trailer job in '84 working with me. My mentor, and a guy I met at orientation at Swift who was a rehire/ former senior mentor.

Still talk to all of them every week.

I meet many who are lost on some issues and had crap training. I get calls from them every once in a while.

Kind of a "mentor at large!" :biggrin_25525:

I'm still with my mentor. *sighs* It's been a long two years of training but I think I've just about got him in line.
