I usually do like Mark.. I think. I'll plan my route on a laptop first, then scan the turn-by-turn on the 560 for any weirdness, especially local streets near a destination. I'll make a mental note or write down any detours I want, then just go and let the gps catch up on the fly when I make turns off the gps route.

Icyhot: Three ways that I know of to do what you're thinking.

    1. Plan a trip with a via waypoint that will force the desired route, then run it. This gives you the option to save the trip if it's a route you run on a regular basis.

    2. While on an active route, swipe the screen to display the overview, then navigate to the area where you want to detour. Zoom in and tap a spot on the map that would essentially force the route you want and add it as a fake stop or waypoint. I haven't done this in a while, so can't remember the exact sequence or prompts.

    3. Haven't tried this, but there is a detour feature noted in the manual. It seems more about avoiding something like bad roads or construction versus taking a more favorable route you prefer. Also, I have a feeling this will give some unpredictable results, as you see at times with truck restriction routing. Due to less data on hand about secondary roads the gps might put you on. So personally I wouldn't use it.

The swiping on the screen is what I was looking for. Also, choosing Where to, categories, scroll all the way down to bottom and choose coordinates, then select view on map does it as well. Only gives you half the screen to use but you can save that spot. Thanks guys for all your help. @ Mark, I have both the 560 and 760.

I generated a route last night and used the detoure function and also tried to swipe the screen at a high zoom to force a route. I agree with the others here, detoure can come up with some unpredictable results. I think really the best way to force a route is just to do it. I am putting it back on my dash today before I leave here. You've challenged me and now I want to figure this out one way or the other. Only problem is this trip is very straight forward and not a whole of oppertunity for route changes. Ah well.

Another quick thing. Has anyone changed the catagory buttons on the goto page on the 760?

For owners of the 760. A new software update is now out. If anyone gets it before I do, please report it here. I will as well. Hopefully they added my phone to the smartlink.

When was the last time you updated? It might not be new to you but new to me since I havn't actually checked using the updater since January. Thanks for the heads up though. I'll be running the 760 now permenatly barring unforseen issues. Had to do a few things with another brand before handing it off to a buddy. Also had an issuexto discuss with GCS regarding this refresh issue I brought up here a few weeks ago.

I updated last night. But it looks to me that they really didn't do anything with the core, just fixed a few minor issues that were more cosmetic then anything else. If they stay to schedule though, should be a map update next month. So maybe we'll some real changes.

In the via or waypoint department- need to make sure advanced detoures is checked in the settings page- this will allow a segment on the map pagecto be "swiped" or "clicked" to be avoided. So to that post regarding Jacksonville, Fa- make sure advanced detoures are set and set the avoid on I95 after the junction but as close to it as you can to try and set up an avoid. The other way is to use multi-route and program in a waypoint or series of waypoints on I295 to force that route. I guess vias are not part of the 760's programming and I am adding that to my list for feature requests next time I talk to GCS. I very rarely used via on the devices I owned except to get a better feel for the milage- just usually went the way I wanted to go and let the unit catch up. I personally think that's the best way to do it :D. Still though vias are something nice to program in. So let me see what they have to say about it.
