From what I've read about this new GPS app thats going to be our new navigation tool soon, there's a couple of details that worry me about how this app is supposed to work. These are 2 of the details on how this new app works:
- Only maps needed for a particular route are downloaded to the tablet at the time a route is requested. That way, the most current, nearly real-time map is used, and the route takes into consideration road changes, traffic and closures.
- Because the maps are downloaded at the time of route creation, you need to be in a location with good connectivity at that time.
The 2nd point in particular is what could cause issues, depending on where you're at when you need a route sent to the GPS app. I hope Schneider considers keeping the current (or old app, depending on when you read this) as a backup GPS app in case you have internet connectivity issues with the new app.
