new guy here

    Hey everyone. Just thought I would drop in and say hi. I`m currently in school for my CDL, got 2 weeks left. I was a Harley Davidson mechanic for the last 7 years but the industry is just dead and I don`t have the desire to stay in a unstable industry. I decided to get into trucking because the way I see it everything ends up on a truck at some point so there will always be a need for drivers. Being new I know I`ll probably have to put my time in OTR and I`m not looking forward to missing time with my kids but at least I`ll be providing for them which I`m not able to do sitting at home looking for mechanic jobs. I like driving the trucks and I`m surprisingly comfortable and I`m looking forward to getting my CDL and getting on with a good solid company. If anyone has any advice for a newbie in this industry don`t be shy,lol.

    Hey AJS, welcome to 'the boards'. I'm getting ready to start out taking classes in about 3 weeks so we're going to be in the same boat, somewhat. But my background was in the I.T. industry (you know, cube farms as far as the eye could see).

    Anyway, just wanted to say hello and wish you lots of luck finding more information here. Good luck with the rest of your class too!!
