Hey guys, Im new. Names Dennis, I live in Dallas. My grand dad was a trucker for Hunt Oil back in the day and he's the one that got me into CB's. Im not a driver, I just do A LOT of long distance driving in my F150. Always love to talk to anyone I can, and am thankful for the information I get.

    My old/current set-up is a Cobra 29LTD with a Road King 56 mic and a Francis 4' whip.

This set-up does okay, the radio was peaked to about 30 watts PEP, and sounds really nice.

This weekend Im putting in a new set-up though. :biggrin_255:

    Magnum S9 nitro radio
    Texas Star 350HDV Linear
    Predator 10K antenna
    Tram noise filter
    All RG-213 Coax.
Astatic 636L mic, and my old RK56 mic. (dont know which ill use yet)

Also picked up an Aries HP-5000 swr meter.

Anyway, look forward to hangin out here.

    -Dennis

Just so you know, take time to visit www.fcc.gov/eb. Scroll down to "Amateur Actions" on the left side! It might surprise you!

Ive seen that before. It seems like its mainly people getting into trouble because that misuse or abuse what they have. I mainly have the amp for receive purposes, it has a really nice (i think) pre-amp in it and brings in more than just white noise.

IF im running down the highway at night and need to jump ahead for a minute, ill turn the amp on, but other than that, it stays off.

It seems like most of those are power companies, or base stations...

I run preamps on the ham bands they CAN help to hear weak signals.
PREAMPS for a receiver are not illegal however if they are attached to a amp they are.

Here is what my station looks like with a RECEIVER PREAMP. It is the GRAY BOX above the TS-2000 it covers AM broadcast to the 6 meter band I also have a preamp for 2 meters and a amp for that band it can be seen in the photo on the shelf next to the Grant CB.

Nice setup you got there. My biggest reason for the amp involves my plan for the future. I love radio, its a great hobby. I am about to take the ham test, and after that I will be able to use my nitro radio and the amp to get by on Ham bands. I know that its not THE BEST ham set-up, but it will do fine for me.

I may add a amp someday but I run 100 watts on all bands up to 6 meters.
A good antenna even if it's a trap vertical will get out with the best of them you don't need a beam or a 100 ft tower.

It took me 40 years to get my station to where it is .....

This is what it looked like 42 years ago .....
