First off let me start by giving a big thanks to nococraig and his wife for their posts as they have gone about their adventure in the trucking business. It is partly because of you guys that my wife and I have become more comfortable and confident in our decision to become truck drivers. So again, thank you!
A little about us... We have decided, after much research, to go with USXpress. Our orientation starts on the 14th of November and we are extremely excited to get this process started. Previously my wife worked from home taking customer phone calls all day and I am recently separated from the Air Force. With not too many job options out there and a fear of transitioning from the military world to the civilian world I started looking into getting my CDL to become a truck driver. So far the wife and I have rented our home, and literally sold every thing. We've kind of taken an 'all in' approach to this new adventure. We hope to see all this beautiful country has to offer and hope to make a few friends along the way. I will keep you posted on our experience good or bad. Please feel free to throw any advice our way as we will take all that we can get! Thanks for reading and stay safe.

Whatever you do, make sure not to get any preventable accidents, not tickets, get a GPS because most places aren't easily found, and also remember to GOAL whenever you're not sure. Good luck and hope to see you out here one day.

I hope you enjoy the lifestyle as much as we do. Just remember that the first six months are tough. It will get better but you are living in a 60 square foot apartment. Also, try to be patient with each other. Remember that almost every time you communicate, one of you just woke up and the other just finished working 12 hours. Keep us updated on your progress.
Oh the amazing sunrises you will see..... -
Day 1 of orientation and what a great start! We are so impressed by the staff here in Irving. Every thing has gone off with out a hitch and every one here has been so helpful. Today seemed like a whirl wind due to all the task that needed to be done. We first started with some class room time to get our policy materials then rolled right into the road test, physical test (this was super easy btw even for the Mrs.) then our physical from the doc, some finalization on our paper work then on our way back to the hotel. Nice and smooth. It was mentioned to the wife that she probably won't be able to get a female mentor but she should have the chance to meet one of the male mentors on Friday who comes highly recommended to see if things will work out. We feel we are and good hands and will sleep easy tonight. Be safe out there where ever you may be!
