How long have you been driving it like that? I hope you haven't missed past good opportunities to get the issue corrected. Operations that deal with commercial trucks today need to understand the magnitude of truck worthiness and ability to pass inspection, or they need to get out of the business. They can't jeopardize your livelihood to keep money in their bank.

You are required to perform a pretrip on the truck and log it in a DVIR log book regardless of local, or not, you are not required to maintain a driver log if you are local.

Also, get a green book and read it.

Did the officer not ask for your DVIR log, or if you had performed a pretrip?

log at the very least a 15 minute pre-trip. this covers your butt in case of an accident. then log at least a 15 minute post trip. again, this covers your butt.

You no longer have to do dvir unless you find a defect.

yes, but for me personally, i do one everyday. at the very least, if in an accident, it goes to show you still checked things out.

you are only supposed to do a DVIR if anything is wrong, but i do one, no matter what.

Anyone who doesn't do a DVIR daily is courting disaster.
