Just inroducing myself. Been researching tons of truck companies and schools for several weeks now and have finally made the decision to attend roadmaster in west valley ut. I had to sell my soul for a year to a company so they woukd cover the expenses. I looked at companies with their own schools and found too many horror stories from new drivers that made me have nightmares while I slept at night. Having to begin trucking out of financial desperation to support my family. I'm going to do my time, get some experience, and then try to get into the oil tanker field. I said try. Been lurking here for a minute as well.

Best wishes. Will you tell us which company you are going with?
Smart move going with the tanker later. That's where the money is.

Welcome to our little world! Thankfully, you're smart enough to do plenty of research and investigation into the industry and will have a complete understanding of everything that is out there. Keep us all posted of your progress. Again..... welcome to the world of the trucking industry!

Chinatown, I'll be going with jbs carriers. I couldn't get a cosigner for the school and jbs will front the money. I just have to pay them back at a hefty 400 a month paycheck deduction for 52 weeks. I was hoping to have a cosigner so I could've went with watkins shepard. However jbs doesn't seem too bad compared to other companies. I like the fact that their trainers have at least 5 years or more experience. I'm really wanting to learn all that I can.

Thanks for the welcome. Hours and hours of research and so many conversations with recruiters. A rather daunting task. I will keep updating this. Ill start school on the 1dt of july and graduate on the 19th. I go home for a week to say goodbye to my wife and kids for a year and then head out with a trainer for 6-8 weeks or 15, 000 miles on the 29th. After that I get my own truck and hopefully I'll be good enough to earn my required chain leather wallet with jbs stamped on it:)

Did I read this right, 400 a month to repay school cost? that is $4800 for the school. What do you get for that kind of money?

Yes you did read it right. It is roadmaster school. Iys down the street from me and I get to go home everyday and live with my family in a clean environment. I wont be stuck out of town in a roach infested hotel with some other filthy guy who snores like a pig and is sprawled out in his tighty whitey underwear scratching his balls infront of me the entire time. I get real home cooked meals instead of mcdonalds everyday. Oh yeah I also get a cdl. I realize its a ton of money and that there are other options for me like going to cr england and being forced into a lease contract, by them sitting me for days on end not making any money and being trained by some guy who only has 3 months driving experience but thinks he's the asphalt cowboy of the century. Those are personal things that I had to waiver in my predicament.

That's good information to have. Didn't know JBS has that program. Meat haulers have to run hard, so best wishes.
