i wanted to stop by and say. I’m glad I found this forum. I’ve recently made a career change. I was at my old job for twelve years and recently got into the trucking business. I was hired on by a food delivery company. They sent me to get my CDLs and paid me to do so. We drive Day cabs. They are all automatic ( I tested out in a standard shift so I kind of wish they were manuals). We work four on and three off.

Enough of that. I’m open to any advice from anyone about this career choice. I’m open to any suggestions , the do’s and do nots, anything to help me be the best employee and driver I can be. etc.

    Thanks again.

Get all the endorsements, so you'll be prepared if you tire of humping groceries.
You're back will let you know when you've had enough.
    Where is your location?

Having no restriction is good but auto is the way to go. Less likely to tear up your shoulder shifting

Recovery - A return to readiness.

When hitting the iron or anything strenuous, you're not growing stronger. Strength is gained only after RECOVERY. Recovery happens only during sleep. Injuries usually happen when the body/mind hasn't been given ample recovery time. In other words, there's no possible way that you will be able to do the best job you can, to bring that A Game with you every single day...

    ...without proper rest.

I've done the food service gig. Enjoyed it. Made good money at it. Whenever it begins to feel like a grind, you need to recover.

    Luck in battle.

Sounds like a dream job. 4 days working and 3 days off is one sweet deal. You didnt say if you had to lump the trailer (lump = do the unloading).
Oh and welcome to the forum.

Yes we have to unload our own trailer but it does go fast. I’m fitness minded so I see it as an all night cardio session lol.
I’m in Memphis, TN. I got my doubles-triples and tanker. I’m waiting on a background before I attempt my haz. I want to get everything I can do if I apply elsewhere I will hopefully be ahead of the pack.

Man I agree. Even in the school my shoulders were sore everyday. One from turning and the other from shifting.

You made a good choice for a career change. Have a backup plan for the day foodservice takes it's toll on your body, because it will eventually.
A nice drop & hook outfit such as Estes Express; the money is good $80K - $100K per year.
