I've known about this forum for a while, but never bothered to register before. Kind of wish I'd joined sooner and asked some experienced drivers for advice before diving head first into the thick of it without proper preparation.
I got my class-A about two years ago through England. I ended up leaving them after about three months because I was having such a horrible experience with the trainers I was getting paired up with (the first one just dumped me in Salt Lake city after a week and took off without telling me. The second one was carrying a female passenger, and went on vacation a week into training me).
I ended up coming back home to Cali, and was lucky enough to get my old security job back.
A friend of mine is a local driver and has been telling me that he knows a couple of guys who own trucks and are looking for drivers, and that they might be willing to overlook my lack of experience. I'm skeptical.
I went ahead and got my TWIC at this friends suggestion, and I'm going to go get my medical report renewed this weekend. I'd like to take some kind of refresher course at the local trucking school, but I really don't have the money for it. I feel pretty confident in my driving ability, I just know my backing needs work.
So anyway, if anyone has any advice or insight its welcome.
