My license expires next month,I haven't renewed yet, as they now give you papers to drive on, while the hard copy gets mailed to the house.
I'm looking for work, and know Ill need my hard copy to get through orientation.
Anyone have trouble driving with just the papers you receive at the license bureau?

Only way to get a cdl renewed is on the spot at the dmv as far as i know.

Same here, get a hard copy on the spot.

I dont know any vehicle that you can drive legally without a hard copy license.

(In the instance i forget my wallet, i do have photocopies of the important stuff to drive in the truck. Thats not a free pass, but its better than nothing and hopefully its an understand LEO. If i ever have to produce them....)

MN has a nearly 4 month backlog on CDL's. When I renewed mine last year I was issued a 120 day temp, and it took nearly that long to get the hard copy.

The paper is just as good as the plastic, as long as it hasn't expired.

Well ok. I did not know that. While OH says its legal to operate on the paper copy, be prepared to have documentation stating OH says its legal. Not for in OH, but the 8 states that dont do mailed licenses might not know OH regulations.

Next year wont be able to travel by plane without the compliant license.
What if something happens at home and I need a flight?

What the hell are they doing in MN? You have roughly 3.3 million licensed drivers? PA has 8 million and no back log. Lol

Good question for your DMV. They are the ones issuing the new licenses by mail.

What the hell are you supposed to do if the mail truck wrecks or burns to the ground?

Im all for the mail system and we need it, but for documentation that pertains to my work or legal travel.... ill take it by hand at the dmv please.

Crazy that every state has different policies.
Don't have any clue why they have to mail the hard copy.
I'm guessing all the illegal folks are using fake addresses.
I see a voter ID in our future..using the same policy.
