I knew whatever decision I made would be wrong.
Renewed my license, dropped hazmat, then recruiter calls an hour later wanting to know if I can prove I'm eligible for hazmat.
Told him he missed it by that much.
I need to get to work, asap, bills piling up.

I use a free online service called Drop Box. ANYWHERE I have internet, on any device, I can access Drop Box. I also use a password manager. It stores the password database locally/inside Drop Box.

Take a pic of your CDL, passport, TWIC, car registration, homeowner's policy, etc and store the pics inside the password manager and online with Drop Box. If you lose one of your important documents at least you can have a pic of your original on your phone and online.

I also keep the paper temporary CDL in my Go Bag so I can use it if my plastic, permanent CDL gets lost. Generally, if you can remember your CDL number that is enough for cops/DOT to confirm your ID. Back when I started Pilot asked for your CDL number when you got fuel. Anyone remember using the phones at the pumps?

That’s fantastic! Put the most valued possessions in one convenient and central location so hackers don’t have to search all over for valuable data. Saves hackers and thieves a lot of valuable time and hassle.

Only place I have ever had a problem with a paper license was Home Depot. Some of their DC guards don't recognize it as a valid license because it didn't fit on their scanner.

When I applied to the Virginia DMV for my ID card I gave them my CDL hardcopy. Although it had been suspended for medical reasons the hard copy was in my pocket. I did not get a hard copy of my ID card but the DMV did punch VOID in the card and gave it back to me, and I later got it.. I recommend you keep this hard copy although voided out until you get the new hard copy. You can establish validity through the paper. Sounds stupid I know. However, I am going back to my first post. Normally it should not take more than 2 weeks to get the new hard copy.

But not being able to get a hard copy same day is a real hassle for the hard core OTR drivers who can’t get home just whenever they want to. And having to get back after 2 weeks is a loss of still more income.

I'm not sure what the problem is. ALL states will accept the paper as a license. I think they are valid for 90 days. I don't think it is nothing but an inconvenience. I in full agreement that a hard copy should be issued the same day. I'm just saying if they are not you the driver really have no option. This is not something you have to do every other month. I think the average CDL is valid for up to 5 years. Sucks, but it is what it is!
