new HOS regulations fast approaching..........

    for those of us that don't work 9 - 5 though. it means once every 7 days. which means no more regular weekends off. even though our operation is geared for that.

    it also means now that we have to basically take at least 48 hours off. i highly doubt that 34 is going to work in our favor that we're stopped before 1 a.m. to count as the first day.

    anything the govt can do to screw us up is going to happen.

    let's just hope that theres a lawsuit that prevents full effect when the time comes.

    this one was attacked by the ATA & Co, they were vehemently against it, and the govt pushed it thru anyway

    so if these corporate mega-companies couldnt buy their way thru this one, i dont see what a bunch of ragtag drivers would have done

    but then again, you never know what goes on behind closed doors these days, it could all be an act and there is something worse coming down the pipe

    let us not forget that it is drivers like these...............

    that really hurt us, they will support anything that is "legal" no matter how detrimental it is for our livelihood

    As long as all my paper matches and DOT gives me the thumbs up when he pulls me over then I will keep on keeping on.

    Call me an outlaw all they want but what it boils down to is making money to support my family, getting home to be with my boy and still be able to buy a toy now and then. If it means flying under the radar once and a while then so be it. Just don't get pissed because I am making more money doing my thing then they are doing their thing.

    I have never been put out of service for anything. My logs have been put under the microscope during an audit and no problems found. I take care of the equipment assigned me even if it means working on it myself and not waiting for road side to show up or for the shop to send someone out to fix something.

    Trk drivers are rotton to the core while 4 wheelers are perfect.They do nothing wrong,it's always BLAME THE INDUSTRY for all the crashes.I thought these HOS already went into affect.Goes to show how much I read the FMCSA web site.Actually it bores me.

    Scenario: Superload in Los Angeles with 5 CHP officers, 4 support trucks with 10 riggers, 4 Southern California Edison Electric Company trucks with 8 (Union) linemen, and 6 pilot cars... "sorry everyone we need to stop here on the 405 and I-10 for 30 minutes because I need a 'break'". NOPE! My company is going to have to pay a co-driver to ride along for 8 hours (not in the truck of course because he would have to be on duty not driving in a day cab) But of course now Escort drivers are required to run log books so EVERY escort vehicle will have to get a relief driver....... Dont be surprised if YOU are the one sitting on the freeway while 400 Tons of transformer wait for the relief driver to do a 45 minute pre-trip on a 19 axle expandable.

    I AM SO SICK OF REGULATIONS KILLING MY LIVELIHOOD!

    Let's see how this works out on a week:

    Friday Eve: Shut down at 8 PM to start a reset.

    Saturday: Reset continues. First 0100 - 0500 part of reset completed.

    Sunday: Reset completed at 0600. Second 0100 - 0500 part of reset done. Use 11.5 hrs driving and working.

    Monday: Use 11.5 hrs driving and working. Total now 23 hrs used

    Tuesday: Use 11.5 hrs driving and working. Total now 34.5 used

    Wednesday: Use 11.5 hrs driving and working. Total now 46 hrs used.

    Thursday: Use 11.5 hrs driving and working. Total now used 57.5 hrs.

    Friday: Use 11.5 hrs driving and working. Total used now at 69 hrs. Can start another reset at 8 p.m.

    So.... you have 70 hrs avail to use after end of a reset. Reset started on Friday eve. Work Started on Sunday morning. You have slightly more than an average of 11.5 hrs to use each day before 70 is reached and you are eligible to start another reset 168 hrs after the beginning of the last reset. In 14 hrs to drive 11 each day, you have to take a 30 minute break anywhere between the 3rd and the 8th hr of driving, so you can complete a total of 11 driving that day. Somehow, that doesn't sound like the end of the world. Most people with a bladder need to stop sometime between the 3rd and the 8th hr to relieve themselves. Sure it doesn't take a full 30 minutes, but that time can be used to stretch your legs, check emails, get something to drink or refill a thermos, or whatever. It will tick off quickly. Most folks do not use a full 11.5 hrs each day, every day, all the time, to drive and work, so only a few would ever risk bumping the 70 hrs before a being able to start another reset 168 hrs after the start of the last one.

    And, like now, a reset is just an option available to use, but is not mandatory, one can do recap each day and continue to work each day until bumping 70 each day. Just recap the next day and keep on going. Oh right, those of us that were driving prior to 2003.... that is how it was since 1939 and the HOS regs first came into being. Only those that have been driving since 2003 have a limited concept of doing daily recap. Those of us that were doing this before the 34 hr reset came into being will just revert to the way we did it for decades before the 34 hr reset was a glint in any FMCSA official's eye.

    Oh gloom and despair. Life will not be worth living in trucking, I guess.

    Take it another way -
    I drive nights mostly. If I wrap up at 0400 (like I will tomorrow morning) and need a reset, I have to sit off duty for 49 hours. What the new rule does is ruins night driving. I can run on recap, and do a lot, but when you have to hustle and run out your clock (and like me, you're getting 4.5 recap hours) you're kinda screwed. It's not the end of the world, but it definitely will put downward pressure on your income potential if you're a night driver.

    The rule has a lot less effect on day drivers

    More government micro-management....trying to put an entire segment of the working population into a nice little matrix on their computers.

    I was a morning DJ for a number of years. I love mornings. I'm often up at 0300 ready to roll. Seldom do I start my day later than 0700, and only then because circumstances require it.

    Government can take their rules and stick them up somewhere appropriate. And we should use Ray LaHood's rear orifice as the receptacle.
