Can I just drive slowly around the parking lot at noon for 30 minutes after fueling to satisfy the 30 minute break requirement or are we supposed to park out on the street in front of the Pilot that was full of other poor SOB's trying to knock out their 30 minute break?
This one requirement alone is why I'm hanging it up and decided not to go back following my usual hiatus. Have fun fellers and be sure to perfect your backing skills because those of you who don't care to trash around in truckstops in the middle of a work period are going to find yourself backing into fewer available and tighter spots, more often and staring out a windshield and watching a clock 30 minutes of every day. What a life.
new HOS regulations fast approaching..........

Yeah, it is going to bite for a few drivers. Most new regs negatively affect some portion of us. For those outside the norm, this will be interesting how they make it work. But like with most regs, adjustments will be made in operations to account for it. It may not be painless, but not really convinced it will be a tragedy as some suppose.
I guess I have seen all of this nonsense go on for so long, I have just learned to see thru it all and find out how to make it all work for me. I guess that is why I didn't really have to make monumental adjustments each time some new HOS reg came out. Sure, things have changed from the way I did things back in the 80's and 90's, but I am not so sure I would care to return to how we did things in the past. Looking back, I didn't do any better financially than I am now, and it seemed like I was working around the clock all the time and constantly wore out. New HOS regs, using e-logs, CSA concerns, etc.... I am doing better now than I ever did back then and I actually am home more often. It is always a challenge, to be sure, to make adjustments.
I always look at a new HOS reg the same as many do when they first get proposed.... this is going to be a mess. Once I work thru various scenarios in my mind and on paper how they will would work, I find that with a few tweaks to how I am doing things, I am able to adapt and make it work with little pain. I guess working in the Federal Government for 13 years helped me to learn how to look at new regulations and find a path thru them and make things work. The first week after these new HOS regs got approved, I sat down and looked the entire 28 pages over and found out how it would all play out. I worked on how I could adjust, and am ready for these new regs to kick in.
After all, one either has to learn to make things work, or get out of the business. I have no beef with those that decide they have had enough and are moving on to other things. Those that try to make it work, I will encourage them. Those that want to cry the sky is falling, I have no sympathy for. I still carry some of the mindset that was developed in me when I was in a Recon unit in the Army. Just ruck up and get moving. Overcome obstacles and get the job done. Lead, follow, or get out of the way.Last edited: Nov 18, 2012
10speed, Autocar, scottied67 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Wonder what the whole point of the "listening sessions" was. If they were going to do it their way anyway, just go ahead and do it. Not like the people actually doing the work know what they are doing. Just keep regulating to the lowest common denominator. Let's make everything on the road less productive and call it progress. Just one step closer to communism is all.
SHO-TYME, NavigatorWife and Junkyard Johnney Thank this. -
Take one last look around at the few pieces of America that are left before they are gone, just in my short 52yrs alive it has changed so much, make no mistake about it this is only the beginning, each one of these or anything like this in any phase or area of our lives not just trucking is just another test to see how repressive they can get before rebellion, if this works oh now they will move on to the next step disguised as "Progress"

You guys blame LaHood.
It was in development since 2005. It was bigger than just him. -

You burned up close to 70 hours in 5 days. No recap available for you. Better off with the 34 hour reset. If you waited to get horus back on your recap then you would be more then 34 hours anyway.
The Teamsters and the man would deem you a bad driver for working so many hours so you best keep that to yourself from now on.
