That's true . That's how drivers knew they were edited . Several times I logged in and there was a note my logs had been edited .

Who can edit logs is determined by the carrier . QC drivers couldn't edit anything .
Ironpony is correct to some extent . Line 3 cannot be edited by anyone BUT drivers can drive off duty logging PC . The e-logs I had wouldn't go to line 3 after a posttrip inspection was performed until a pretrip was logged even if on duty .

All depends on the system. The one we use I can edit everything, BUT, it shows the pre-edited lines as well if the right box is checked. Thus I only make corrections such as if a driver forgets to put himself back on-duty from a break.

It would be hard to justify a change in line 3 when EOBR's give constant GPS locations

Just like folks have multiple paper log books, and throw out loose-leaf log pages until the lie fits the crime. It's not the form the log book takes, but the integrity of the individual.

Elogs are based on the use of GPS location tags. I don't know how PeopleNet works for example, but the QualComm product I understand has all of the original data stored on their mainframe in San Diego. The database that someone would edit is separate from the original data. In a compliance audit, those edits would stick out like a sore thumb.

If this is really true, then why would they even consider it.

Besides, the information that is older than 6 months is technically not a subject any inspector can look at.

It's really true - at least for QualComm. I have no idea why anyone would want to take the risk. At least at my carrier, no one from the operations side of the house has access to the edit functions... which is a good thing.

Not being familiar with them at all, and seeing the many comments on here about editing, makes me wonder.
