Which means that in reality, you only have 13.5 hours.

Not sure what you're trying to say there. It's pretty clear that regardless of ten hour break, split sleeper or what have you the key is that you cannot drive when 8 hours have passed without a break of atleast 30 minutes. You could take a half hour break 2 hours into your 14, drive for another 8 hours and then be required to take another break of at least 30 minutes before completing your driving time for the day.

And this has what to do with the 14?

Uh ... no. You start your clock at 0800. You can't drive after 2200, 14 hours later, not 13.5 hours later at 2130.

this should not be anything to fuss about if you do paper logs cause you can fudge a little bit. but 11 hrs driving is still 11 hrs driving, the 14 has to include a half hour off duty some where before your 8th hour. with elogs thier wont be any way to get around this. i figure i will use this break to annoy the dispatchers or something like that. happy trails

Is Canada doing that 30 minutes off duty before driving past 8 hours on duty, too?

If you have 3 or more hours on duty not driving on your 14 the 30 minutes will reduce your driving time .

No, nothing has changed in Canada. Can drive 13 hours straight if you want to here.

Good for the slackers, bad for the producers ... typical regulation of new-age big government. This will advance the term "trashing around in the truck stop" to a whole new level.

Sir, in my original post I stated that it would be best to take the break between the 6th and 8th hr upon starting your day so that it couldn't affect ure 14hr rule.

If u drive a dedicated run where the 14 is no big deal then of course no stress, but if you are OTR and have irregular runs then somedays the 14 is our bread and butter.

The law states that cannot drive more than 8 hrs from ure last period of at least 30 min break. Thus, if you take ure break on ure 4th hr of duty, 8hrs later on ure 12th hr of starting ure day you would have to at least take another 30 min if u haven't finished
