That is why I could see team drivers objection to the new sleeper berth rule requiring 8 hours sleeper but I was glad to see it . Too many times drivers were expected to log 2 or 3 hours sleeper while delayed then extend their day under the old rules . 14 hours should be enough for anybody . I rarely sleep past 5 a.m.. Driving until midnight then having to wait until 10 a.m. to start just doesn't work .

Not only that but CAT scale tickets are well known to auditors as well. We went through an audit a couple months ago and one driver was turning in the copy of the receipt that didn't have the time on it. Mr DOT said that's a no-no.

In 1999, in school, the instructors did not teach us to log illegal. But they taught us to log by map in the classroom. They said, when you get to your company, they will be instructing you of their policies on the log.

The trainer taught me to log at 63 mph no matter what road or state. He taught me to reduce my miles by 10 percent.

He taught me to log 15 minutes to dock no matter how long it took and the same to unload, no matter if you watched or assisted.

This was the way it was many years ago.

As an owner, the company would not show my truck on the inspections by dot. It had a card with a number not tied to the company statements. That way, they wanted us to run highly illegal.

It was the way it was done back then.

It was when I went to Landstar and learned that it could be very bad to be caught or if a wreck happened.

Changed my ways on many things then.

I know that that's why I clarified fueling as on duty time and thus not applicable to the thirty minute requirement.
