Yeah, this crap is going to be a nightmare. And Steve Williams argued this point extensively in the recent HOS Congress hearing. He specifically said that it was going to affect his drivers' home time and in turn would make it difficult for him to keep long term drivers. Maybe Congress will listen, I don't know. They sure tore Anne Ferro and the FMCSA a new one during the same hearing, asking why they were implementing a rule without having completed their field studies. And she was just slinging her ######## as usual.
If she was removed as head of the FMCSA, the entire industry would leap ahead by 5 years overnight.
EDIT:
Below is the link to the video of the hearing, and if you fast forward to 1:38:00 you'll see Steve Williams state what I was talking about above.

yeah, I posted that same link earlier today (actually a link to a different thread on TTR discussing that video). It is a long video, but Steve did a great job on that panel I thought.
-
Yeah I thought so too... was kinda funny to see him squirm just a bit when one of the Congressmen suggested that drivers should be paid hourly instead of by the mile
-
I think you guys are getting your panties all bunched up just because you like the way it feels.
You are going to see no decrees in miles and some of you will see an increase due to the fact you are paying more attention. Running re-cap is no big deal, some of your best weeks will be on re-cap. If you have a good week the next week will have just as many hours available to you, thus another good week. If you have a bad week, the next week you will have even more hours available.
You don't have to park the truck just because you didn't get your 34. Lets say you get 24 hours at the house. This will catch you up on your recap and you should be able to run again, no big deal.
How do you think drivers did it before the recap provision was implemented? They ran recap all the time. As for running in the middle of the night, no way, not me. As caption of this ship its not in the plans. But if you want to plan to fail, go for it.
Some will fail at this and quit for sure. Others will quit just because they are looking for an excuse to quit. And the rest of us will just use this as an excuse why we "can't" get any miles.
I'm talking specifically about Maverick here. If you're pulling a box doing drop and hook that's different. Just do the math. Maverick wants you to run 420 miles a day. OK thats 2,100 miles a week. At an average speed of 48 mph (ETRP speed) that's 43.75 hours a week. This leaves you 36.25 hours a week to load, unload or what ever. So just to be average you will drive 8.75 hours a day and have 7.25 left over to load, unload and what ever. But Seawheeler thats 16 hours a day? Yes it is, proving my point, you will still have all the time you need to get your 14 hours in every day during the week and then home for the weekends!
Here is one more point if you are still with me. What is 14 hours multiplyied by 5 days? It's 70 hours right? So it looks like the Feds are trying to mandate a 5 day work week. I don't have a problem with that, do you? Maverick's policy for home time is geared toward a 5 day work week. See the connection. If you want to work more than 5 days a week maybe you should find another occupation. As for me, I'm pushing for the 4 day work week!Last edited: Jun 23, 2013
RERM, plentygood and sewerman Thank this. -
I couldn't have said it any better myself great job seawheeler.

All true Seawheeler, however, running a week on recap is very difficult if you have 1 (or sometimes even 2) LOAD appt and usually a DELIVERY appt all within the same day or within a 24 hr period- and that's not even to mention that the Loads are taking place at places like AK Steel and Precision Strip which are notorious for keeping you there for sometimes 4-6 hours just to get loaded. Running on recap is a guaranteed way to assure ME that I will only get the MINIMUM PAY for that week. I CANNOT AFFORD TO EARN OUR MINIMUM PAY EVERY OTHER WEEK. So, if this along with the stupid DEDICATED PFP program is as big of a STINKER as I expect it to be, I will be back in the RAT pack very very soon. And THEN, I will agree with 100%. Until then, I remain steadfast and adamant in my current position regarding this.
-
Your argument is flawed. If you are sitting all the time how are you running out of hours? You should never need a reset if you are running as described. I think you just have a case of the red butt from that dedicated BS run you are on. Come on out and join the pack, get happy.
jxu417 Thanks this. -
It may be words to live by because we are forced and that's the point. We don't need no stinken worthless government controlling our every move. We're big boys and girls not children telling us alright little one time to go to sleep. We know when we're tired not the government.Just because we have to take a 10 hr brk,do you actually think drivers get the adequit amount of sleep? Then that half hr brk,WHAT A JOKE.If they want to start working us like the average time clock job then they better start paying us by the hour.
jxu417 Thanks this. -
As has been stated numerous times in numerous threads here, the 168 hrs is from the beginning of your last restart, NOT the end.
-
Trucking is all about money just ask any company, any drivers. The government has ways of working the system in their favor, the publics favor and the trucking companies favor. But not the drivers favor. We get paid well below what we should.Everytime FMCSA changes the HOS it only makes it worse for the drivers. This is not about safety. Its all about power on the governments side and revenue.
