We started a new policy of putting drivers that get more than 6 questions wrong on a JJ Keller HOS test on eLogs. I'm not sure I like the idea anymore. If you don't understand the hours of service you dont understand them. EOBR's will only track what you do, they will not make you smarter, safer, or more compliant. In fact I'll argue that, and I have with my safety director, they make you dumber.

I would agree that those that do not fully understand tbe HOS on paper will really be in the dark if they rely on EOBR. Especially if the darn things goes into a cramp and they have to pull out paper logs.
The HOS regs are not difficult to understand if a person actually tries to learn them. But then, the old regs we had since 1938 were misunderstood by so many. No matter what HOS regs come out, there will always be people who will mess up. -
Commerce City, CO to Lexington, NE via I 76 and I 80. Drop and hook, then to Emporia, KS via I 80, US 81, I 135, US 56, KS 150 and US 50. Elogs, truck governed at 68 mph 10 hours 53 minutes on line 3. I observe speed limits in small towns.
It can be done. 694 miles. -
Key words bolded. My truck is governed at 60 mph and would never make that run.

Has the government ever created anything other than a nightmare especially in trucking?
If things were about safety then they wouldn't change anything since the # of crashes, fatalities, etc..... are at the lowest they have ever been since they started keeping track of them. This just goes to show it's not about safety it's about changing things so nobody understands them again and then they can enforce things they don't even understand for more revenue that nobody is any the wiser to question.
