I really don't get 15 minute pre and post trips (from experienced drivers). If you were to grab 100 drivers at random, I probably do the most thorough pti of the bunch, but rarely take more than 8 minutes. And my ptis include squatting under the tandems and tapping drums with bfh to check for cracks, checking top & bottom shoes for min thickness, chalking pushrods at rest, gauging 10 tires & inspecting them (super single), verifying no missing mudflaps or leaking wheel bearings, checking mudflap securement, verifying sliding tandem pins locked, listening for air leaks, verifying structural integrity of trailer, checking/wiping clean dot reflectors, annual dot sticker, registration in the box, verifying lights (prostar exterior light check cycles through), then doing a 2nd check of trailer brakes after setting trolly valve to listen for applied leaks & to check pushrod travel. After doing it 1000 times, that all typically takes 5-8 minutes at a brisk pace. So wtf are you all doing while youre logging 15 minutes twice a day???? Cause judging from the crap I see rolling down the road -- it aint pti's
Why do these new rules require 1-5am rest periods instead of 4-8am rest periods? When are you yawning more?? $$
There is no requirement for 1-5 AM rest period unless you are doing a reset, which also is not required. Only if you take the OPTIONAL reset do you need to worry about the 1-5 AM thing. The only requirement in the new HOS that applies to everyone is the 30 min break thing.
But then that is the problem. You assumed something that I never said. I never said I left the customer location, only that I pulled away from the dock. I show the post trips and pre trips properly. I also will combine the pre trip with the unload via an additional note to that effect in the e-log. I did say at one point that I do use the OFF DUTY DRIVING thing for PC running around. You assume again though, in your comment that I "obviously unloaded", because I never stated whether I was pulling a trailer or not when using PC. I am not confused about anything. I just told you what I do, and how others can do it also to minimize the hassles of using an e-log. Of course, those that are anal about every minute doing something has to be shown on the log at the exact time it happened will have issues. But truth be told, most of them also do goofy stuff with paper logs, like we all have, so their criticism of me doing similar things with an e-log is hypocritical. I have never done a post trip and a pre trip from different locations. They have both been done at the same location or at least on the same customer property each time. Whether I ran around for several miles in between time is a non issue. That was PC. And how does working 80 and getting paid for 70 factor into this discussion? Ah... you must be thinking that I am paid by the hour on the logs. Silly notion. I am paid by the load. So if I can "tweak" the times actually shown on the elog, it benefits me. If I was paid by the hour, then your argument might hold water.
our DRIVE time is regulated there is no "work for free" we drive trucks, not work in a factory by the hour at the end of the week, thats what counts, not the hours in between and we should be able to work and maximize our 168 hrs per week away from home, rest, drive, rest until the 168hrs is done, and then start over
I don't think I, for one, ever made any grand claims about making "big" money using e-logs. I think I have only stated that it didn't negatively affect me. I noticed, or at least my spreadsheets didn't notice, any hit to my gross or net since I went to e-logs. But then, I never felt the need to do extremely wild things with a paper log, so the transition was not much of a change. I guess the level of how e-logs affect someone is based on how much they have to (or feel they have to) "fudge" the logs now to make things work. My gross and net are both up since I have been on e-logs, but that probably has more to do with getting better rates and watching costs closer than anything about the e-log.
O.k. , I got it now but you sure spend a lot of time sitting at customers . Maybe not working but not a great way to spend Off Duty time . Our loading and unloading is by appointment but most loads are preloaded by local drivers . Our tanks are dedicated so when we get empty we go home . We usually know when our next load is before we drop the empty .
