Who's claiming that? Big money or easy money? or easier money? and how big is big money for you? $40k gross paycheck? 45K? $50k? $60k? 70, 100K? or did you mean more money? how much more than before? $1k, $5k, $10k? And how about we all keep a tab on how the new hours of service actually affect our paychecks.

If a carrier had a competent safety department drivers would see no difference in income with e-logs . My carrier went to e-logs because an audit turned up falsifications the safety department was unable to detect with paper logs . The carrier supposedly had a "no tolerance " attitude regarding HOS violations . However , quite a few drivers got away with playing " catch me if you can " .
Did drivers lose income with e-logs ? The drivers that were falsifying logs and hiding 10 or more hours a week to get an extra load lost money . Drivers that should have gotten loads that were given to drivers falsifying loads saw an increase in income .
The cheaters tried falsifying personal conveyance and had numerous "malfunctions" with e-logs but they ended up being terminated .

Only for the 10 hr breaks. I run shorter stuff so basically a load a day. I get to where I am going that evening, take a 10 and get unloaded either that evening or the next morning, then do my thing again. So.... I guess you could say I spend a lot of time at customers. But it really is not the unproductive "I don't have a load" kind of time. My appointments are generally an agreement between me and the consignee. I usually have the next load already booked before I get the one I have off. Sometime 2-3 loads in advance. I usually take a load I am pulling to the house for the weekend and deliver Monday.

I have already started doing a few of the 30 min break things in my day to try and gradually work it in before it actually shows up and that way I can manage things. So far, no issue. Really hasn't changed much of anything. Like now, I popped into the shipper, showed 10 min getting loaded, now sitting waiting for paperwork off duty and killing that 30 min for the day. Fit in a 30 min yesterday enroute on a load. Used it to update my accounting spreadsheets, check the email, check the best fuel prices along my run, go to the can, fill the thermos, and then back on the road. I see that it can have some issues sometimes, but so far, I haven't noticed much of anything. And I run such that if I couldn't pull off a 34 at home on the weekend due to the 1-5 AM stuff, I'll just recap and start another week. Well.... 33 min off duty and got the paperwork. On my way.

The last couple of months I have been loading Fridays for Tuesday deliveries and parking at the terminal 20 minutes from the house . I get extra pay during restart because the shipper doesn't load weekends and pays 2 day extra use of trailer charge . Funny thing is that trailer is dedicated to that shipper because it requires a special liner for that product . If they don't use it it's parked .

I attended an e-log class today in my company just to learn about the new changes of HOS. They gave us the new rule: "May drive only if 8 hrs or less have passed since end of driver's last off duty period of at least 30 mins. (HM 397.5 mandatory "in attendance" time may be included in break if no other duties performed)."

I thought I could include the mandatory break during a fuel stop any time before my 8 hrs and be done with it. But log person said no... :biggrin_25513:She gave me an example:

Start driving at noon. From 12:00 to 13:00 (1 hr driving); from 13:00 to 13:45 fuel (15 mins) and off (30 mins) not mandatory because still have less than 8 hrs to drive; from 13:45 to 21:45 (must take 30 mins mandatory brk).

Rocks, you can take the 30 minute break any time during the first 8 hours of driving. At the beginning of the 8th hour you have to be off-duty if you HAVEN'T taken your 30-minute milk 'n cookies break. In your example, the 30 minute break in conjunction with fueling would satisfy the requirement. Your logs person needs to go back to school.

Well.... I am telling you... according to log person in my company, that first 30 min off duty will not satisfy the mandatory break rule because I drove only one hr. I will ask each and every log person in that dept. She told me that if I take a 30 min off duty after my 1st or 2nd or 3rd hr driving, I would still have to take a second 30 min off duty... Like you, I don't agree with that.... But she made it look like I can't drive past 8 hrs after my last off duty status without a 30 min break.
So, let's say I have 11 hrs to drive, I drive 1 hr, take 30 mins off, than, will have to take another 30 min off within 8 hrs driving.

Agreed, so you'd want to do that 30 minute break sometime after the 3rd hour of driving starts to prevent having to do another one before your 11th hour rolls around.

I know you like to blast on through, but my bladder (and TruckerDawg's) require some mandatory download time during the course of the day. It really won't change how I drive... just have to pay attention to the off-duty clock at some point.

Yes... I got that rule in writing from my company... Generally, I don't drive more than 9 hrs without fueling the truck. And I take care of my needs during that stop but most of the times, my fuel stops don't last longer than 30 mins all included and I can't always stop for fuel only after my 3rd hr of driving. So, I guess I will be stopping at ramps to satisfy the mandatory rest break. As I don't want to spend even more time going to a truck stop for that...:biggrin_25512: that would consume even more time....
