    Hi
I am living in San Antonio, have 4 months experience over the road and want to get into oilfield work. I have been looking in Midland/Odessa area and also in the Eagle Ford shale area south of here.
I applied at a company which runs cement and was told they pay 30% of loads and 20$ an hour when not on a load. The HR interviewer says pay can be from 1500$ to 2250$ per week.
A second company I applied to pays a flat 17$/hr up to 22$ an hour. My starting pay will be 17$ as a frac hand/equipment operator. Work is 40 hours plus 25-35 hours OT per week but will be in Odessa 15 on, 6 off.

Any thoughts or suggestions on either company. Just wanted to hear what anyone has to say on either position. I want to put this out without indicating a company name because I do not want opinions on the company to sway just the info on the positions.

pay means nothing if you don't post the company
they could have a terrible CSA score for example, in which case I wouldn't go with no matter what the pay is.

Hey I'm talking about generalities here. It seems like every time someone posts about a particular company we get one guy that comes in and makes it into a rant about how ###### the company is and few posts later you have someone posting how they have been with the company for years and its the best thing since sliced bread.

If you don't have an answer for my question then don't post.

    2 questions.

    1) 30% while loaded yes? $20 per hr not loaded? so what happens if you are loaded, but have to wait 6 hr?, 8 hr? 24 hr? do you get detention pay?

    2) $17 to $22 in Odessa? do they supply housing? even if only temporary til you can find something ( good luck).

myself I might go with the 1st company, IF they pay detention, if I have to wait to get unloaded.

Now it's almost a no-brainer IF the 2nd company supplies housing..you pay nothing.... that's anywhere from $600 to $2,2000 a month IN your pocket instead of going out.

Awesome, that was what I was looking for. Thank you.
Good question on the detention pay, that will be something I ask next time I talk to that company.
The second company supplies temporary housing for the first month or two, after that I need to be in the area on my own dime. No per diem. I am not against living out of my SUV and showering daily and nightly at the Planet fitness that they have there in Odessa or Midland. Both of those are open 24/7.

LOL! I must've missed the rule where as a new member, you get to tell the rest of us where and how we can post.

I suggest you curb that attitude, it isn't gonna take you very far in the Texas oilfields.

Doesn't make a difference which one you go to with your defensive attitude you'll be
canned within a couple weeks anyway.
