    I won't say not to get a nice truck. It's your money and buy something you'll enjoy looking at. But why not pick up something used but nice to start off with and see how things pan out. Like others mentioned, things are slow and rates suck right now.

    Do you get moose meat at the end of the year for a bonus? If not, go buy the truck.

    Ok, how much is the payment going to be? What is the down stroke to get it? Do they stock now? Is new the best option? Read all about emission trucks here it will help your opinion.

    Lol slacker? Working 16hour days, 6days a week pulling btrains and your calling me a slacker? How many 26 year olds do you see on the road that do that? I'm sorry I value my time and I would much rather explore other options that give me a better yield on my time investment on the road.

    Thanks, yeah I've been looking at some companies pulling hopper bottoms in SK, I was also thinking of getting my own authority, but wouldn't companies choose not to dispatch you with your own authority since they're loosing a bigger piece of the pie on the load? Are there any associated risks for owner operators with their own authority?

    You've sure got the drive to pay off a $180,000 truck. I was the same way at your age. If I had it to do again i'd buy a brand new truck being 26 years old. I was too chicken back then though. Get what you want. I'd get it as a glider kit built like I wanted and skip the emissions racket while you still can. Bust it for a few years and have a nice paid for truck that will last you 20 years or more.

    Yeah I've talked to the salesman at Kenworth and they're giving me a quote of around 190k :eek: , nice looking truck I must say, a lot of ugly looking trucks out there now a days lol

    Deals can be had on a brand new one. You just have to be serious when you go to the dealer. I got 2 for 20k less than a sane asking price OTD (as in including FET, so closer to 35k below asking) each, last year. 200k is not a sane asking price. 170 for a fully decked out ICON is closer to reality in the US. I was just quoted 155k, not including fet for an ISX 550, 13 speed, 86in studio, 275in wheelbase, ICON.

    As for used, check out ritchie brothers auctions. Deals are to be had. If you've been in business a while and have good credit RB even offers a line of credit at surprisingly low rates (mine is 2.9%).

    Yeah I've got a buddy who bought a used Peterbilt and a couple months later had a complete overhaul on the engine cost him 30k out of pocket... Ouch :( , buying used is always a gamble, buying new at least I would have the piece of mind that nothing will go wrong on the road atleast I hope.

    IMO you are not yet ready to buy a new truck. I think that you have stars in your eyes and are not seeing the reality of trucking. Having a new truck with your own authority leaves you a long ways from being able to survive this rat race. I hope you stand back and weigh all the pros and cons of being an o/o and a company driver. I wish you well with whatever you choose.
