How is it, that Volvo/Mack can build a quality transmission but the rest of their product sucks? Even basic wiring is a joke. Local company just bought 8 new Macks, all have a serious vibrations in driveline, trucks have been to dealer, back to the plant, now 1is at their engineering facility and they still cannot figure out the problem! They actually kept 1 of the Macks and gave the customer a new Volvo instead. Absolute junk. Its Mack in name only.

Engine and tranny are made by Volvo powertane. On Renault all manuals are ZF, on Volvo - Fuller, ZF and Volvo manual tranny on cabovers only. All the autos supplied to Volvo truck, Renault and Mack are I-shift with different logos.
Electronic units for Volvo, Mack and Renault are made by Volvo, Motorolla, Bosh (Including Bosch ECMs with Knorr bremce and Bendix bage, generally EBS, ABS and ECAS), Wabco (with ABS-D and ABS-E). Wiring is generally made in China, connectors are AMP and Deutch. Connectors are all good.
Axels.... Meritor, Spicer, Volvo.... Volvo do not make hypoid tandems now, they make hub reduction tandems only, so hypoid tandems are generally Spicer ore Meritor, but Volvo makes single drives for 4x2 trucks.
Volvo engines D11, D13, D16.... smaller engines for FL, FE are Deutz CRD engines with Volvo logo (like Paccar named ISB, ISC and ISL....) -
It was kinda a rhetorical question. My point was that they seem to be concerned with offering a quality transmission, but they dont seem to care about the sub par truck they put it in.

I would take a old bicycle over a new Mack !!!! Mack built trucks for one thing back in the day and that was pulling rock buckets and hauling garbage. And that was when they were a good company now that they are owned by the biggest plastic truck company in the world you couldn't give me one . But that's just my opinion so it can't be worth a heck of a lot .

really Mack is positioned on market like a real US truck, they make old US style cab and interior. Volvo cab is really European cabin with bigger sleeper. EU cabovers and VN shares panesl, dash, instruments, cotroll, really all..... including handles, locks... all with metric fasteners.
Mack inside is the real US truck. -
You're weird. No one is saying ANYTHING about volvos. This thread isn't about volvos.

If you were bright enough to understand what Pablo is trying to say you would understand that you can't really talk about the new Mack's without talking about Volvo. The new Mack's are just Volvo trucks with Mack cabs and they inherited a lot of the Volvo problems such as poor wiring. Pablo is one of the most knowledgeable people who post on here so try being a little more respectful.jonboy29 and Freightlinerbob Thank this.

really Mack is not pure US truck for more 15 years. V-Mack and PLD engines are Renault engines.
MACK, RENAULT TRUCK, SISU and VOLVO are all VOLVO trucks with different cabs. (SISU got Renault Primium/Mack Quantum cab.... ).
It is not all. Paccar powertrain is global too. New MX engine is designed in Netherlands. Really it is DAF 105 engine.
Really american engines are CAT and Cummins, but they are used in Europe too.
Detroit Diesel engines are developed by MTU, in Europe they got Mercedes bage. -
I understand that. But, the topic of the thread isn't the full breakdown of who makes Mack trucks. It's should I get a new Mack or an 04 Pete.

IMO, good cabin. good suspention. I love old style US cab. no reason to discuss powertraine. More then enought about D13 and D16 info on this forum.
Pete... I love it too, really I love) For cab. What cab is better is the quation. It would be difficult choise for me
