Not necessarily. I had my lil'wil tuned for my wifes car and I used to remove it an only use it when we went on trips. The tuning hardly changed from spot to spot only very slightly and definitely not enough to re-tune it. I'm guessing from the sounds of it he has a pinched coax that is now exposed with that high of a spike in swr or he doesn't really know how to check them.

outerspacehillbilly you say that I may have a pinched coax, now I did run the antenna coax from the roof of my pickup through the sliding back window and shut it. Is that a possibility and what would it look like if I were to go check?

I worked for STPete PD and one officer came in with a radio he said was FLAKLY .....
It worked just fine UNTILL you moved the front seat and then it went bonkers .... The seat guide had cut a slice out of the coax and in just the right spot it SHORTED the coax and move it just a TAD made a exact splice hooking it back up again ......
You got to love those days .....
